Brand new Ace 2 - bricked after initial install?

Today is my son's birthday and he wanted a fitbit.  We got him an Ace 2.  This morning we started the install process.  It was to be setup on an iPad.  We got through the software install (ie showed 100% then said installing) after that the thing has been a brick.  I've tried to hard reset by connecting to the charger and holding the button down for a full minute.  Nothing, no smiley face, no vibrate, nothing. 

 

Do I just need to return this?  Is there anything else I can do?

 

BTW, the watch was about 70-80% when we started the install so I don't think this is a low battery thing.

Fitbit customer support is doing their best, but right now be prepared for longer wait times. Please be patient. Support is limited by the number of representatives available at a given time and the hours of operation. Chat lines are open when they have live help.
