Ok but what if my child does not have their own device i.e. a phone or a tablet? I've done all the rest of these steps attempting to set up the Fitbit Ace 3 I just purchased, but my kid is 6 years old so he does not have his own device yet. Not sure how to go about adding him to my Fitbit account without having to literally buy a whole phone?

I have another sad child on my hands and I am pretty frustrated with Fitbit.
I have a useless birthday gift and a child in tears and I'm also out the $25 I spent on different straps for her.
This has been an ongoing issue with Fitbit for years it seems? And not fixed.
My Fitbit inspire is due to give out in about 6 months and I will be gladly switching to apple.

This hasn’t worked for me. It keeps cycling between ask a parent and set up

Hi @LizzyFitbit. Those options don't work for me. I continue to get an error as it is a supervised account. By law it has to be a supervised account so...what's the fix here? The device is essentially useless.

Didnt work for me. Couldnt sign in with my daughters Google account. I have tried for a couple of hours and then gave up and returned the watch.
Its a kids watch. You shold be able to put it on the wrist and it should work. I sholudnt be required to learn java or open endless new accounts to get it to function.

What if the child doesn't have a mobile device? They are CHILDREN !!! I don't want my child to have a Google account to wear the Fitbit, much less a device. This is ridiculous and I'm so fed up with this process. I have been a Fitbit user for 10 years, but with this new Google merge, it looks like I will be looking for another smartwatch

I realize this topic has been covered, but it should not be that hard. I created a google account for an 8 year old so he can wear a Child's Fitbit Ace. These are made a designed for CHILDREN !!!! This is ridiculous that I have to create a Google account for the child in the first place. I don't even want him to have an account, but created one for this sole purpose and now cannot add the new Fitbit Device because I cannot log onto his account without 1) providing him with a "device" which he does not have or 2) deleting my account, This has been a horrible experience. I have been a Fitbit user for 10 years, but I feel like my time is coming to an end. This might have been the last straw. Merging with Google has been a horrible experience.

Couldn't agree more. I have been trying for hours to get my Kids Ace 3 installed, and it is simply impossible. First I HAVE TO make a Google kids account because you can't install an Ace 3 on a regular account, then I HAVE TO install parental control, then I HAVE TO install Family Link, and then Fitbit says: "Sorry, you can't install Ace 3 because this is a kids account with parental control." Seriously?!
----
This doesn't work, Lizzy. The problem is that the Fitbit app demands the customer to set up a Google kids account, and then when you try to log in with the kids account, Fitbit says: "You can't use this app with a kids account". Please please PLEASE solve this issue tomorrow, by either (1) allowing the Ace3 to link to an adult account (2) allow Ace3 customers to set up a Fitbit account apart from Google or (3) allow kids Google accounts to use the Fitbit app. Sooooo many options - how has this not been solved weeks ago??

Hi everyone, and welcome to our new members.
Let me share that our help article has been updated. Android users will be able to find an option to avoid needing a second mobile device for their child. Also all iOS users should be able to login with the child account on the same device.
Please go to that article and check the information located under I'm setting up a kids tracker for the first time > I'll use my phone or tablet where you'll find instructions to complete the process on an iPhone or iPad, OR on an Android phone or tablet.

I’m not surprised but this update still doesn't work, Lizzy. I’ve been following this thread for a month and my 7 year old is still begging me to get their fit bit working that I can’t return because I held onto hope this would get resolved in a timely manner.
the problem: A supervised account can’t log into the ace, an adult account STILL doesn’t have the option/button to add family as explained in your article (on a parent or child iOS device), and I’ve tried making 3 new google accounts for my kid to get this to work. At this point, I’m strongly considering just getting my child an Apple Watch. The inability for google and Fitbit to get their act together tells me all I need to know as a consumer and we make demands with our dollars.

Thanks Lizzy, but that is not a solution. The problem is that you cannot set up a Fitbit account for a child, nor add a child's tracker to an adult account.
Could you give us an idea as to when Fitbit will solve this problem? Are we talking days 😏, weeks 🥺, months 😭 ?

Any update on when this issue will be resolved? I can’t add the Ace 3 to my Fitbit account because it’s a child’s device, I don’t have the option of adding or creating a family account on my account, and I can’t log into my daughter’s google account because it’s a supervised account. Heck, I’d even be okay if the band just told time and the number of steps taken that day, but can’t even get past the “download the app” screen.

Fitbit just lost another consumer. We returned the Ace and bought a BIGGERFIVE band from Amazon for half the price and it took 5 minutes to set up. Seems to have all the same functionality and come in more colors than the Ace.

Update from me. I returned Fitbit and instead bought my boy a Xiaomi Smart Band 7. Cheaper and more functionality. Slightly too big for him now but he will grow into it. Very happy: https://www.mi.com/uk/product/xiaomi-smart-band-7/
Simple setup << google please take note!

It's 8/30/2023 and you still can't add children on iOS devices. This is frustrating as my son can't use the Fitbit Charge 4 that I handed down to him when I got the the Charge 5.
