Can’t get all family members into one shared family account

Help. I have used Fitbit Charge2 for over a year now. My eldest daughter, age 13yrs, has recently purchased the same fit bit (Charge2). My youngest, age 9, just got the Ace for her birthday.

Problem starts- I set up my 9 yr old up with a account with myself as a guardian. My 13yr old was invited into our wider family’s Family Account, as she was old enough to not need a guardian, (managed by her Auntie), with grandparents, Auntie & cousins. Now she can’t join my family, as she is already a member in this other family. And my youngest and I can’t join their family as we are in one of our own!!! How do we amalgamate everyone (three generations) into the same, single family account? My youngest is distraught she can’t join in and share/follow steps!!

Hi, @BVI2000, at this time you can only be a memeber of one family account.

A family account can have a maximum of 11 members, so if that is enough for all the parents, grandparents, kids, aunties, uncles and cousins, then you should be fine, and you can choose which family would be your single family account.

All adults (over 13s) can still have their own account.

So the procedure would be decide whether to keep your family account with you and your young son, or the Auntie's family account.

If you choose your account, then your daughter should leave the other family.  Here are the instructions:

From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon (User-added image).
Tap My Family.
Leave the family account:
iPhones and iPads: Swipe left on your name > Leave Family.
Android phones: Tap the 3 dots > Leave Family.
Windows 10 devices: Tap the 3 dots > Leave Family.
Confirm you want to leave the family account.

You can then invite her to join your family.

The Aunties, Grandparents, etc can do the same -- leave their family and join yours.  Finally, after everyone has left, the Auntie can delete her family account before joining yours.  After you remove all members, tap the 3 dots > Delete Family.

There are two possible problems with this.  The first is if you have more than 11 people in your family.  In that case, unfortunately you will need two families.  You can still be in competition with each other -- just invite a member of the other family.  And, of course, be sure to "friend" members of the other family so you can see their steps and exchange messages.

The other possible problem is if their is more than 1 under 13 and they live in different households.  For example, suppose you all decide to join Auntie's family?  You will need to delete your child's account (be aware that can take a couple of days) and he will need to be set up on a Fitbit account using Auntie's email address and password -- you can do this on your phone, but you will need Auntie's email and password to do it, otherwise your child won't be able to set up and sync the Ace.

I hope this makes sense!  If not, please post again and someone will be able to help.

Thank you for your comprehensive reply.

The Auntie does however also have a child, aged 12 with a Fitbit Ace. So if they all moved to our family, he would have the same problem.
However, her child is soon to be 13yrs old. When this happens will he still need a guardian with his Ace even though he is now classed as an adult? or will the Fitbit Ace always require a guardian because it was designed for kids regardless of their age?

Thank you

Hi, @BVI2000, as long as you or the Auntie are willing to share email and password for the account (so the child in the other household can log in and sync) that would not be a problem.

However, to answer your specific question, an Ace can be set up on an adult (over 13 account) as well as a child account as long as the user (in this case your nephew) has his own email address.  (Obviously he does not need to use this other than for the Fitbit, so if Mum has an extra address he could use that -- basically every account needs a unique email address; the only exception is for child accounts which are a subset of the adult/ guardian account).  The only limitation would be that no steps, badges, achievements etc will be carried over from a child account to an adult account.
