My daughter is currently 11 years old, and has been using a Fitbit for almost 3 years now. I have her set up in my family account, currently using an Ace 2. She has decided that she wants to upgrade to a nicer tracker, so I purchased a Charge 5 for her. I am now realizing that I cannot add the Charge 5 to her account.
I have read all the relevant information, so I do not need someone to repeat the information that I can find on the website, unless I missed something that tells me how I can add a Charge 5 to my childs account..
I am essentially here to ask if the only way I can get the Charge 5 set up so that my child can use it is to delete the child account, and set her up with her own account, in essence being forced to lie about her birth date in order to use the product? I would love to keep her on an account that i had more supervision over, if there is an option to do so. But if this is the only way, then so be it, but I think that this is the dumbest possible business decision for Fitbit as a company, and a huge inconvenience to their customers.

Hi @Cuessane you already know the only way for your daughter to use the Charge 5. There is no workaround for this situation. As for having more control over the account, you could use your phone to sync and keep track of the data. You can share the phone, but would need different accounts set up. You'd log in and out to sync your individual data.

@Cuessane Fitbit chose this particular business decision to be compliant with US internet privacy law regarding children. Every non-Ace Fitbit has a web dashboard. Your daughter can't have a personal account for her Charge 5 for the same reason she can't have a Facebook or Instagram account.
Fitbit is certainly moving to an app based product line. New features are only on the app. Fitbit recently removed a feature from the web dashboard. We are left with this situation until Fitbit eliminates the web dashboard.
In the meantime, the Ace 2 uses the same pebble as the Inspire. You can use Inspire/Inspire HR bands on the Ace 2. Have you thought about sprucing up her device with a new band?

I understand and am well aware of the internet privacy laws regarding children. I am also aware that the parent (Guardian throughout the specific laws) has the right to give their child permission to create accounts. But Fitbit has taken that right away by saying "No". It's all there in PART 312—CHILDREN'S ONLINE PRIVACY PROTECTION RULE.
My issue is that as her father, I have the right to allow her to create an account that I feel is safe and appropriate. And Fitbit is not prohibiting her from using the app or having an account, they are just limiting the options that are available to her. So they are not 'protecting her rights' by not allowing her to add a Charge 5 to her account, they are just limiting her ability to make a choice.
