Creating a Fitbit account for 13 and 15 year old that are not using Ace

I have a 13 and 15 year old that I purchased Inspire 3 devices for. I need to know how to add these devices to their accounts. They are above the age that require the Ace models, but only those show up as an option.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @Ekidwell. I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been able to add devices to your children accounts.

Where are you located? There are some countries that have age restrictions for older kids. You can check the permitted ages for adult devices for the different  countries here

@Ekidwell   Do you use Google Family Link?  Based on other posts, Family Link seems to have its own privacy protections.  You need to remove your children from Family Link.  Users say you can add them back.  I don't have personal experience, only what other users shared.

Thanks for getting back to us and for letting us know about your location @Ekidwell

As @LZeeW, recommended, please remove your children from Family link and they will be able to set up their Inspire 3 devices. You can invite them to join the Family link after that but won't be supervised.

Have a nice day.

So I was able to get their account sorted out. But I had gotten the Inspire 3 devices. The phone recognizes the Fitbit, but when I go to setup, only the ACE devices are listed as an option.

This is really not a good solution.  Is there any way to request an enhancement for this? My son lost his ability to track his stats when he converted to a Google account under our Family Link.

Thanks for getting back to us @Ekidwell. I'm sorry to hear that only the Ace option is listed as an option.

Did you remove your children from the Family link? They must appear as adults and not as children in order to be able to set up the Inspire 3 devices.

Welcome to our community, @TZRick. I'm sorry to hear that your son lost his ability to track his stats when he converted to a Google account under the Family Link.

Which device does your son have?

Best Answer

@AndreaFitbit, I did remove them from supervision as you had previously suggested. While they were out of the family link, I still only had these options.

I believe we are in the same boat as @Ekidwell.  My son is 14 and has an Inspire device (Inspire 2 I believe).

What's the big deal?  Why is this unfounded age discrimination built into the products?  It makes no sense.  If my kid gets an Inspire or an Ace, it shouldn't matter.  The stats being collected should be the same.

Thanks for getting back to us @Ekidwell@TZRick. I really appreciate that you added a picture @Ekidwell.

Could you please force quit the Fitbit app, restart the phone and see if the options to pair remain the same for your children accounts?

Could you also mention which device do you have? Android or iPhone.

Please make sure that you have the latest version of the Fitbit app.

The device is an Android Samsung. However, that seemed to have corrected the issue. Was able to get the device paired and setup.

Thanks

Nice!  Will be giving this a shot on our side as well.  We are using a Pixel (Android).  Thank you!

Thanks for getting back to us @Ekidwell, and @TZRick.

I'm glad to hear that you were able to get the Inspire 3 paired and set up @Ekidwell.

Please let us know if your son is still unable to use his Inspire @TZRick.

Good Afternoon, I'm having the same issue here.

My daughter has just turned 13 (UK) and got an Inspire 3 for her birthday. Are you suggesting that I need to remove her from the Family Link family in order to set up the Inspire 3 and when I add her back in I will have lost all ability to supervise her phone? Or will I still have the ability to determine her phone downtime etc?

She is on Android, Samsung Galaxy.

Thanks

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @karolkarol. Thank you for sharing your query regarding the Family Link.

Removing the children from the Family Link has helped to pair the accounts. Inspire 3 is considered an adult device. You can have more information about this  on help article: Age requirements on Google Accounts and Add & manage supervision on a current Google Account.
