Hello,
My daughter has an Ace 3 and she is connected obivously with a family account. I said "is" but I should say "was" as yesterday she turned 13 and Fitbit sent me (as her guardian and manager of the family account) a nice invitation email to upgrade her to a Fitbit standard account. The very same invitation appeared neatily in the Fitbit app under her kid view.
I followed the procedure and I'm reporting my experience here as I didn't see other reports so it might help others.
First of all the procedure went very smoothly and her stats were ported to the new account. During the setting up of the account a new email was required (as she is now logging with her new credentials), height and weight as well. I highlight the following:
1) the Ace 3 is still associated to her account and it is still working so actually the Ace 3 can technically working for an adult (13+)
2) The Fitbit app (her account) is now showing also distance (previously only steps and active minutes were shown) but calories are nowhere to be found
3) The app, apart calories, shows the full functionalities including, among others Menstrual health tile, weight tracking, and track your mindulness. I'm puzzled why the calories are not included, somebody might argue that this is because of lack of heart rate, but then also Alta and Inspire where like that and have calories tracking
4) The Ace 3 didn't receive any firmware update so the new functionalities (such as weight, distance) are not shown in the display. And of course the Ace 3 still can't record exercises
5) At the end of the onboarding she got a welcome email invite her to get, quote, a sleek Fitbit Inspire HR, sporty Fitbit Charge 3 or a colorful Fitbit Versa Lite Edition that are perfect birthday gifts". The email is quite old I would say...
Now some more personal considerations:
a) since the Ace 3 is just an Inspire 2 with reduced capabilities obtained via firmware a firmware update to retrieve those functions (heart rate in primis) would have been very welcome
b) even better the Family account should allow the addition of any device and, since the law is clear, HR could be disabled when the device is under a family account
c) as evident from point 1) above, the Ace 3 can work also for adults so it is unclear why Fitbit doesn't allow the device to be set immediately as an adult account (there are many requests for this function)
d) looking at the point 5 it seems clear to me that Family account might be the next feature to be killed in Fitbit lineup.
