I would like to buy Ace as a gift for my daughter's friend....but if the family does not have a Fitbit for an adult, would the child be able to use it without having an adult account? Or would an adult be able to set an adult account without a Fitbit and be allowed to open a child account with Ace?

Yes, you can set up an account without having a fitbit and then open a family account and add the child. It might be a good idea to talk to the parents first though as they may not want to set up and account and monitor their daughters tracker.
