Issues since creating family account

I never had any issues with my Fitbit account before moving it to Google which I was forced to do to create a family account. My daughter got an Ace-3. 
Now neither syncs easily. Sometimes not at all. I have spent ages on several live chats but always get the usual troubleshooting advice, none have worked. It is so frustrating. Currently unable to sync either device. 
Also, in the middle of a step challenge which uses another app. Fitbit steps used to auto upload. Not since I transferred to Google.
