Re-pair a FitBit Ace 2 to an iPad

My son has a FitBit Ace 2. He uses it with an iPad (he doesn't have a phone). He uses the app as a child under his mother's login (I believe that's called a Family Account). They were able to set it up just fine from new.

After about a month or so of use, he unpaired the device via the Bluetooth settings on the iPad (we think  because it failed to sync when he went to use it). The device does not show under Bluetooth Devices in the iPad Settings - it has been unpaired from the iPad. But the device is still behaving as it did earlier - I assume it still thinks it's paired to the iPad.

He tried to re-pair the device through the Bluetooth Settings on the iPad, it showed up as an unpaired device, but failed to pair.

Starting the FitBit app on the iPad, we could see the device on the profile. But with the "locating" spinner showing.

We removed the device from the profile in the app hoping that it would allow us to pair again from scratch. The App goes into the Add a New Device process, but even when brought close to the device (connected and in to the USB charger), it fails to connect to it to set it up.

We have tried resetting the device (hold button for five seconds etc.) as recommended by many people.

We have tried switching on and off bluetooth on the iPad, as suggested a few places.

The device is in child mode, so the Settings app on the device does not present a Clear User Info option.

How can we go about pairing the device to the iPad again? or, a full reset and start from scratch would also be acceptable if that's not possible.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @vihung. I am sorry for the delayed response.

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and sharing the details of the issue you're experiencing trying to re-pair your son's Ace 2 to his iPad. Thank you for your troubleshooting efforts. You can confirm the steps to restart the tracker in this help article: How do I restart my Fitbit device? I understand that you also tried to do a factory reset

I recommend switching to a parent view on your son's iPad by following the steps from this help article: How do I see my child’s stats in the Fitbit app? Force quit the app and restart the iPad, after that try to set up your son's tracker again. You can confirm the steps in this help article: How do I set up Ace or Ace 2 for my child?

Let me know how it goes, I'll be around.
