Switching Ace from an iPhone to an iPad

Hello all,

We purchased an Ace as a Christmas present for my son, he was thrilled with it. When setting up I had to pair it to my iPhone as I did not have his iPad with me at the time.

 

Now I have access to his iPad I thought I would setup the Ace to sync with it.

 

I went into the Fitbit app on my iPhone, tapped on the Ace icon in the top left and then scrolled down and selected "Remove this Ace".

 

I then went to the fitbit app on his iPad, and started the process to setup the Ace on his iPad, but it simply would not find the Ace.

After trying various things, including following suggestions posted in the forum, I still wasn't able to sync. 

 

I contacted customer support and spoke with Norma, who reminded me the Ace can only sync to one device at at time. 

 

It was then that something popped into my head. 

I went to my iPhone and into the bluetooth settings and noticed that there was a device named "Ace" with the status of "Connected". I tapped on it and selected the "Forget This Device" option.

I then went back to my son's iPad, and ran through the setup steps and this time it did see the Ace and I was able to successfully pair it.

It seems like common sense now, and yes I feel foolish not having thought to check this, I'd forgot that it had actually paired a device to the iPhone. I suppose I assumed that when removing the device it would also disconnect and unpair it from the iPhone.

Anyway, the point being. If you're having trouble switching an Ace from one device to another, check the bluetooth settings and unpair / remove / forget the Ace from the device before trying to set it up with the other device.

Hi, @Sharkus, thanks for the tip!  You are quite right in what you say.

 

However, you didn't actually have to remove the Ace from the Fitbit account.  You could have simply logged in using your son's iPad, and it would have 

 

Fitbits (including the Ace) can SYNC to multiple devices (I sync mine, for example, to both my iPad and my phone, and sometimes my computer, depending on whether I am home or out and about), but they can only PAIR to one device.  

 

Pairing allows the Fitbit to receive notifications of calls, etc.  If a Fitbit is "paired" to a device (phone/ tablet), it either has to be removed from thar device's Bluetooth settings, or the Bluetooth needs to be turned off on the device.  Once unpaired (as you have explained) or if Bluetooth is turned off, it will sync to another device.
