If anyone is unable to add a guardian because they're receiving the error "users age is set to private":
It seems one cannot change this setting in the app currently. Have the user you're trying to add change their privacy settings for age through their profile on the Fitbit website at http://fitbit.com/settings/privacy

I found this to nearly be a dealbreaker for my husband. As I am the account holder, I can keep my birthday to myself. My husband had to provide his and I'm not sure if I can see his birthday because he is my friend or if anyone can see it. But he doesn't like putting any personal info out there for any reason. He grudgingly did it so he can see what's going on in his children's sleep and activity levels, too.
Can he at least go back to private now that he's been established as a guardian?

Is there way to change the privacy setting of the birthday to select people instead of "My Friends"?
I feel like this feature of setting privacy on sharing information is very limited. In order to add Guardian, my spouse have to change the privacy setting on her birthday to either public or "My Friends". Both of these will increase level of privacy compared to private. What will it take to have an option to allow "Birthday" privacy setting to only selected people? If it is not possible, you have to redesign the family setup by either doing some type of email link validation by each parent to prove their age. Fitbit Family account should be authorized to have both parents as guardian to manage and monitor their kid's profiles and activities. With current setup is not easy unless the parents relax their privacy settings.
