I have gone to the Account icon but when I tap on it, there is no Create Family Account link. Is it hidden somewhere? I have tried it on my Android phone as well as on my Kindle Fire. extremely frustrating

@EJOberkirsch It's great to see you in our Fitbit Community! I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you've experienced when trying to create your Family account. I would like to know what is the brand of your Android phone.
The kindle fire is not a supported device at the moment. This could be the reason why the option to create a Family account is not available. You can check out the list of the supported devices in this help article.
Looking forward to your response!

Is it just the Ace that isn't supported on Kindle? Her previous Fitbit worked just fine on it!
My Android phone (7.0) is Motorola's MOTO G4.

I have a Fire too, and it works on my Fire...in fact, that's how I initially set up the Ace, if I remember right, before I gave it to my mom.
Have you checked to make sure your apps are up to date? All you need to do is go to the app store, then select "Updates" and then "Update All". It should show you in the "Updates" list if there's an update for your Fitbit app.

Is it only the Ace that isn't supported on Kindle? Her previous Flex ran just fine on the Kindle.
My phone is Moto G4 although I am going to be switching to Samsung Galaxy J7 the end of this month

Thank you for your inquiry @EJOberkirsch, I've seen that it is possible to download the Fitbit app for the Amazon Kindle, however, these devices are currently not listed here as compatible. Fitbit cannot guarantee optimal performance on devices for which we have not tested and confirmed compatibility.
However, some users have reported being able to sync with phones/tablets that are not yet listed as compatible, but as mentioned earlier, this could not be guaranteed.
I hope this helps.
