Cross-posted in Alta forum, apologies to those who ran into this twice:
Hello all, looking for some purchasing advice here. Recently received a Charge 2 as a gift and have been pretty good about wearing it and getting my steps etc. The kids think its hilarious and have taken to racking up steps on their pedometers-of-choice (whether phone or fitness tracker or whatever) and egging me on and such. All great fun. I saw the option for a family account in mobile app and was looking into getting them Fitbit Aces, but it really seems like I'd be better off with Alta/Alta HRs instead? Amazon currently has Ace and Alta at the same price ($99), and other than a smaller band size the Ace doesn't seem to have any advantages over the Alta, only more limited functionality.
So the question for the community is, can I just set up separate accounts for the kids and add them to my "friends" list, and end up having the same/similar functionality as the family account? Just want to be able to see and share exercise progress, that's about it. Or is there some killer functionality with the family account that I'm missing?

I would suggest the buying the Ace, if they're under 13 years old. That's the only tracker that is made for kids and it's the only one that would trigger the Family Account.
There can be up to 11 members on a Family Account, so they should all be able to be added. It doesn't matter which tracker you, the adult, has. However, as I understand it, you can't create a Family Account without an Ace.

@WhichOneToBuy How old are your children? I ask because I have a 8 year old and I like the Ace for him at this age, but may be a different if he was older. The main things I like about the Ace for him:
1) it doesn’t show calorie burn - I don’t want him obsessing about that at this age
2) it is very simple to use - he has never had to ask me to help him with it
3) the family account feature allows me to easily switch over to his account to see his steps and sleep data - with the Alta, you would have to set up individual accounts with their own email addresses and it would require more steps with logging users in and out

@WhichOneToBuy Welcome to our Fitbit Community! The information that shared my friends @DramaQueenDiva and @Jrdubyakc about what is the best Fitbit tracker for your kids is totally correct.
In addition, I'd like you to take a look at this help article, which explains all the information about the Fitbit Ace.
