Alta HR battery won't charge

My Fitbit Battery in my Alta HR no longer charges and so I assume it needs to be replaced.  My question is - can I replace the battery and if so where/how? Otherwise, does a spent battery means I have to buy a new product?  If so, my Fitbit days could be over as it seems they are very costly purchases for how long they last, and having to startover seems costly to the planet too if they only last a couple of years!  (I've already had to replace the strap twice!) I cannot find any information on the Fitbit site regarding this problem but I cannot be the only peson who has had this query!

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Joybella  first check this article - click to go there - on trouble charging. While Fitbit doesn't have batteries or a service to replace them, there are some third party places online that offer both. Do a search for "Alta HR battery replacement" and you'll see videos and batteries. You'd need a steady hand and able to work with small parts, with some skill required, but a few on the forums have replaced batteries in their devices. Do some research and determine which is best financially for you. With Mother's Day sales going on, it could be better to get a new device. As for the environment, Best Buy recycles the bands and the pebble, which is a good alternative to the landfill.

Thank you very much for your reply Odyssey13.  I very much appreciate that you answered my query and quickly too. I took a look at the article you mentioned and I have tried the suggestions to try using  a different charging point etc. but to no avail. As you told me that Fitbit do not sell replacement batteries for their product is just as I feared - an expensive device that is rendered useless after two/three years! I think that Fitbit should mention in their advertising, on the website and in the product packaging that every unit they sell has a limited life because they do not offer replacement batteries! The cost of of their devices is high compared with how long they last and It has certainly put me off buying another - not least because it is an environmental issue too, that  there must be thousands of spent Fitbits discarded every year, because the battery cannot be replaced.

I shall take a look online to see if I can find a suitable Retailer before consigning the FB to the bin!

Thank you again for taking the time and trouble to answer my question. Joybella x
