Alta HR display very dim and hard to read

The characters on my Alto HR have now become so dim that they are impossible to read in most light conditions. My husband is experiencing the same. Both Fitbits are otherwise fully functional but several years old. Is there a solution, or is it simply time to invest in a new Fitbit??

I read that this version dies not have a fix. Can't swipe left to control brightness setting. Very disappointing.
