Alta HR not tracking sleep stages.

I’ve read other posts. I too am not getting consistent readings of sleep stages. Yes the band is set properly on my wrist. Yes the HR is charged. Yes my heart rate tracks all night. Given everything I’ve read, could it be that Fitbit is having a software problem?  Any thoughts?  Any suggestions?

All,

I previously had an Alta HR and loved it, but got very frustrated when the problem with tracking sleep stages started occurring.  I replaced the Alta HR and still had the problem.  I got an Inspire HR and within a couple of months, had the same issue.  I now have a Charge 4 and love it.  I do not know this for sure, but I think perhaps the larger unit might allow the heart rate tracker to read more accurately.  I also am quite certain that the Fitbit software backend/app has had some "bugs" over the last 4 months that have accounted for many, if not all of the problems with tracking sleep stages.  My Charge 4 seems to be more accurate at tracking start and stop sleep times as well.  In the past, I would have multiple periods of sleep times and have to delete and edit to get the correct beginning and ending times. I am also thinking that Fitbit is more responsive to issues with their newest technology and since the Alta is no longer being sold by Fitbit, the software may not work as well on these older trackers.

My Fitbit Alta HR used to track my sleep stages reasonably well but it has only given simplified results rather than sleep stages for the past week. The device is charged and worn properly. I've tried rebooting and even doing the setup process again, but nothing seems to help.

I gave up on Alta a few months ago and used a partial credit from Fitbit to get an Inspire, which has worked more consistently.

Be sure you let Fitbit know what’s going on. Use social media if you have to— I got better results after posting a negative review.

Good luck!

I agree. I went from an Alta to Inspire and have been very satisfied.

The sleep stages problem with the Alta is fixed now. Clearly a problem with the software not the device itself. Mine is, thankfully, now working well and records sleep stages every night.

My Alta HR Is not working for sleep stages, except to give simplified data. Have enjoyed the Alta but it is my third Fitbit that has stopped working within a year. This one will still work for step counting and heart rate, but the sleep tracking has been quite helpful to me.

I gave up and got an Inspiré. Not perfect but much more reliable than the Alta. Good luck!

Fitbit but not sure if that will be my outcome. Thanks.

I've used the reset button many times. It has had no effect on the sleep
analysis part of the Alta. Thanks

In the last month, my Fitbit Alta HR no longer consistently tracks sleep stages. Everything else is working. I am wearing it correctly and have tried to turn it on and off.

I changed the band to a metal mesh type. Also fully charged and reset before bedtime. This works for me. I have had this problem for a year but the last 16 days has yielded sleep stages. Go figure?

Thanks Steve. I have a metal allergy so that won't work with me. It's
really important to me to track sleep so I think I may need to replace my
beloved Fitbit with a different brand or model.

Thanks again,
Gweneth
