Alta HR not working / display won't turn on

Last night my fitbit alta HR just died. I had it fully charged up , I went to look at the steps and it was just completely dead. I tried plugging it into the charger and it didn't vibrate like it usually does. I left it there for a while and nothing happened. I tried restarting it by hitting the reset button 3 times within 8 seconds, multiple times, and I don't even get a vibration. I tried hooking it up to my computer directly and nothing happened. Tried resetting it again. Nothing. Still nothing. I've had this Fitbit for about a year and I'm very disappointed that it's no longer working. I don't know what else to do! Please help!

Mine has not worked at all since the original die phase. A friend told me
today her FitBit Alta just died.

They offered me $25 off a new one, but I don’t  have money to invest in a new Fitbit. Especially if it’s going to die south of the warranty by a few months. That means I’m spending $150 for a new Fitbit every other year. Just wondering how many people have to have the same problem before the company acknowledges what hundreds of dissatisfied customers already know, that there is a manufacturing defect that need some to be recalled.

Is this totally ridiculous?  I have heard back from so many people with the same problem. and I am sure that there are A LOT more who don't go onto the website to say anything.  The company should do something.  It's not like we bought a cheapo $5 toy.

Seems to be a common problem which is being ignored.

  1. Mine has done the same after about 2 months. It died i tried to recharge and nothing. No vibration, no lights nothing. I tried all troubleshooting options from cleaning to trying different chargers to using laptop and also tried to reset by pressing the reset button 3 times. Still nothing. No response. Solid black screen. So dissapointed. Waiting to hear from Fitbit now but not feeling very optimistic after having read responses here.

They will replace it if you have had it less than a year. I got a replacement, which lasted a little over a year, then died. They are not reliable. If you get another one make sure it never completely loses its charge, that may help for a while. Good luck.

Common problem. They are not made to last.

Apparently I'm another Alta HR user who's having the same issue with a blacked-out display.  Was working fine until this afternoon.  Screen wouldn't light so I thought the battery needed a charge.  Plugged in the charger the display lit up for a second showing the battery was charging and blacked out again.  I've done the restart, cleaned etc. and still nothing happens. Can't find my receipt right now but it's not been a full year that I've had mine. So very disappointed today.

I'm having the same issue. I've only had my Fitbit for about a month. I didn't wear it for a few days because I hurt my wrist. Today I noticed that the lights are not on, but when I plug it in to recharge the battery icon shows up then disappears. I've tried restarting it several times but nothing happens. What gives?

Mine was working fine, I went in for surgery and it ran completely down, and would not recharge. Since I was out of warranty couldn’t get a replacement. You should be able to if you call.

The first time that happened to me they replaced it without a receipt. The 2 Nd time was out of warranty and they wouldn’t. Good luck.

Hi @Korie@ladyDi57@miztoni and @AnneVan. Welcome to the Community Forums. @Jttar, it's nice to see you around.

@Korie@miztoni and @AnneVan, thanks for letting me know about your Alta HR devices, as well for the troubleshooting steps that you've tried. You did a great job! I've checked with our Support Team and apparently they already took your case under their wings. I'm glad to know that they're working with you.

@ladyDi57, thanks for performing the restart process, and I'm sorry that your Alta HR didn't respond. Just to confirm, are you able to see a green light on the back? If not, I'd recommend to try cleaning the gold contacts as well to try different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.

@Jttar, thanks for stopping by and sharing your suggestions to our other friend. I'm sorry that you've had this experience with your Alta HR, and I appreciate your feedback. Our team constantly works on our devices to improve them based on the Community posts. I see where are you coming from and your comments will not go unnoticed.

Keep me posted.

Hi, my Fitbit Alta HR was fully charged. And then suddenly the screen doesn’t turn on. I’ve tried plugging in to charge and it doesn’t vibrate or show charging as it usually does. It just died.

Same exact thing happened to me 2 weeks ago.  I contacted the costumer service and they took about a week to get back to me with no help!  I bought a new charger and now it’ll vibrate when I plug it in and try resetting it and the green lights come on now but the display screen is still black.  Very disappointed in the costumer service of FitBit as well.

Hello everyone,

Few days ago I went for a run and while I was running and checked my Fitbit suddenly stopped working for no reason. It’s the second Alta HR Fitbit watch gets broken. 😞
Extremely disappointed ☹️

Regards,
Lorren
