Alta Notifications

Alta comes with the ability to set up and receive call, text, and calendar notifications on iOS and Android.

This post will provide instructions on how to setup your alerts so that you can see who's texting you, the undefinedcontent of the messages, who's calling, and what your calendar has on deck for you. For a detailed overview of alerts for Alta, please see this help page

  • How do I set up call/text/calendar notifications on Alta?
  1. Make sure that your mobile device is compatible with our notifications feature by visiting http://www.fitbit.com/devices
  2. On your mobile device, make sure Bluetooth is enabled, and make sure your device is nearby!
  3. Open the Fitbit app on your mobile device and tap your tracker tile at the top of your mobile Dashboard.
  4. Tap your tracker tile a second time, tap "Notifications" (iOS) or "Call and Text Notifications (Android) and then turn on call/text/calendar notifications.
  5. To verify that set up was successful, check out the list of Bluetooth connected devices on your mobile device. Your Alta should appear.
  • How do I view call/text/calendar notifications on Alta?

You can view your notifications when they come in by using Quick View or by double-tapping the Alta where the band and tracker meet.

Notes

  • For Android users, please ensure that you've turned notification access on in your settings and enabled each notification in the Fitbit App.
  • Calendar notifications use the native calendar app in iOS, and the native or selected 3rd party app on Android.
  • Windows Phones do not support alerts at this time.

I just switched from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S8. I was getting notifications from the iPhone, but now I get nothing with the Android. All of the notification settings are turned on and when I do a test text, it goes through to the FitBit (Alta), but real texts and phone calls don't.

Also, why is this thread listed as "solved" when there are still people adding posts in here about being unable to find a solution to this problem?

I have been unable to get notifications on my Alta after doing all recommended solutions. I've previously had it connect to my iPhone 6 about 1 month ago (my device is about 6 months old), but nothing since. I've paired it, I've allowed Notifications, I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app - nothing has worked. When I go to Notifications in the Fitbit dashboard, the wheel just continues to spin, then tells me Bluetooth Pairing Failed and to try again. It is successfully Bluetooth paired even as I get that error message. So what do I need to do now?

I have tried all of that. Even with you help team on the line. They keep telling me it is my WiFi providers fault.

Nothing has changed.

I can't believe that after almost 2 years Fitbit support will not admit that the Alta just will not always display texts. I talked to several support people and all they could do was to read out of the manual. No knowledge whatsoever. I was even told to return it and try another one which I did. The bottom line is that not all text apps will work. We had to try several until we found one that worked and the Alta got the texts. We also had to use an Android app called Fit Notifications for Fitbit. Thats the only way you will get it to work.

Notifications are set up and working except when someone calls me the phone announces ( ie speaks aloud) the name of the caller, as well as buzzing on the Fitbit. How do I stop the vocal announcement?? Many thanks

@MaginB I read through this article prior to asking for help on this forum. I've tried all of the troubleshooting and I've contacted your support team to walk me through possible fixes, but I'm still having the same issues. I can literally be sitting beside my phone and not get any notifications on my Fitbit or sometimes I'll get a notification with so much delay that I will have already answered the phone, responded to the call, and hung up. With that much delay, had my phone been on silent, I would have missed the call completely.

Ok so how many posts have there been about this problem? Tons! I have checked/reset bluetooth settings, restarted the tracker, restarted the phone, reinstalled the app, completely reinstalled the tracker as a new device. All in different sequences. ..

I have an iPhone 6s iOS 11.3.1

Checked all settings. .. First the messages stopped working but the phone calls were only working occasionally... Then .. nothing at all. Then at one point today it buzzed for one phone call but then not again since. I can't believe I have spent an hour and a half of my day trying to get this thing going. As another poster mentioned, the reason I purchased this  model was because of this feature. I don't believe it's a setting because if so, it wouldn't be coming through on occasion.

I saw one post that instructed to set the notifications on directly on the device, however there were no instructions for the Alta to do this.

Should I be taking this thing back on the extended warranty I purchased on it? I am not pleased.

Please advise ... Thanks

I did all that steps and I can’t see the notification on my watch, I was reading the watch usually vibrate for a new notification. My watch doesn’t do that. Why?

I find if I let the battery run too low I stop getting notifications and to fix this I have to fully switch off my phone and reset the the notifications I also have to delete the fitbit and reset it up again and this seems to reset all the notifications- I try not to let the battery run out or low now because of this hassle
