Alta devices won't work unless they are connected to the charger

My wife and I both took our fitbits with us on vacation this winter. When we arrived both watches did not work properly. When plugged in they show significant battery life. But as soon as they are removed from the charged they quickly go dark. We have tried to reset per the suggested fix. Could an Apple charger magnet affect the watches?  The watches were purchased years apart so it is weird they both quit at the same time. Thank you.

Wayne,

Same exact difficulties as you.  I was on the phone with Fit Bit for an hour.  Cleaned all the contacts, recharged in a different port and reset using the tiny button on the charger cord.  Nothing!!!  I did ask if there was a battery in the Alta and they said yes.  Is it possible the battery is just dead and will not actually be charged when off the charger?  Like you, all displays show up when on the charger but once off, it's black.  Ugh.  Very frustrating.  I did get a discount code from them to purchase another tracker which is pretty good.
