I keep fully charging my Alta and it keeps turning off within minutes or occasionally it will last about an hour. Even though it's fully charged, when I tap it, nothing happens and I have to plug it back into the charger to get it to turn back on. I have only had the device for about 4 months so I am disappointed to be having an issue like this.

Totally agree this is a software problem. I had no problems with my vintage Alta using it for a couple of years. Strap broke and it took me a while to replace it so it was sitting in a draw for 6 months. As soon as I recharged it and restarted / updated the software this week it instantly started crashing and turning off after only few minutes although battery states 80% charged. Have tried multiple restarts and cleaning. This is a common theme. It’s totally unacceptable for Fitbit to update software which subsequently damages people’s older devices, these products are expensive! if you are hoping people will then replace them with updated fitbits they won’t. There are far cheaper and equally effective trackers out there, which are seemingly more reliable too at this point.
i would suggest Fitbit take a good look at this problem.

I have exactly the same experience as Albo76. I haven't used my Alta for a few months, but new strap arrived yesterday so charged it up. It seemed fine, but switched off at 4am this morning despite being almost fully charged and then again at 7.30am when I went for a run - only tracked half the run. I've tried again a couple of times today, tried the restarts suggested here and it still switches off after a short time. Disappointing.

After a couple of years of problem-free use (amazing, as my first Fitbit didn't even last a year), after the update yesterday mine is doing the same thing - despite being 80% charged, it suddenly died. After I plugged it in for a while it came back to life but then died again today. Again, recovered after 10 minutes of charging. From everyone's comments it sounds like there is no point resetting etc. I hope Fitbit will fix the problem with the next update, otherwise I'll buy a new watch from another company.

Mine just started this at the same time. I have had to reset in the past but this time it reset, worked for a short while and now, less than 24 hours later it will not show anything when undocked from the charger. I have tried to restart a couple of times with no success. I love my Alta but right now it is nothing to love- I have no watch and no way to figure out how I am doing when out for my walk. Irritating and disappointing. 😞

After two days of suddenly dropping out, it's now working again, though sometimes it won't connect to my phone at all. This problem of not showing up on my phone's bluetooth has been happening intermittently for a month or so. Annoying but rebooting the phone fixes it. And the battery level showing on the app seems rather high for the number of days since charging. I expect that at same stage soon it will die completely but for now I'll see how it goes.

This is happening to me too. I charge it to 100%, then I put it on and after about 10 minutes it dies. I've pressed the button 3 times several times and it's still doing it. What can I do so it doesn't keep doing this? Is the battery dead?

I am having the same issue! I've had my Alta for a few years and this just started happening this week. I have tried all the same resets that were suggested and nothing - it will stay on for maybe a few minutes and then "dies" and won't start up or recognize anything until I connect it to the charger port. I cleaned it - no change.

Afraid it’s done. Maybe battery life has ended. Haven’t heard from @Fitbit people yet. Wait a little longer then move on from this one. Thanks for your response!

Mine has been switching off despite being fully charged. I’m seriously considering another brand!!

I have been playing the reset game for months, and somedays multiple times a day. I have cleaned the contacts and it's fully charged.
I have had to extend my daily goals to an absurd # because when I hit my goal it shuts off, when I get multiple alerts it shuts off, when I am working out it shuts off. I am on my 3rd Fitbit and none ever seem to last very long. I am tired of giving my money to them when they don't work more than a year or two. Time to start looking for something better out there.
Disappointed Alta Owner 😞

I finally gave up when Fitbit told me they could not help and that Alta is no longer supported. I was given an Inspire HR as a gift and it seems to work much better. I hope it lasts!
