My Fitbit Alta only seems to work while it is charging . I have tried to reset it several times using the button on the charger. It syncs with my phone while it charges and shows full charge. Once I remove it from the charger, it does not work at all. It won't light up when not charging and my phone can't find it at all.
Any suggestions, besides the reset?!

My Alta only works when in charger. I bought a new Alta and a new charger,and it still doesn't work. What do you recommend?

Yes purchase a new on from a competitor- Fitbit doesn’t stand behind their products.

I've been having the same problem. It didn't help!
This is just a scam to get us to buy a new charger! Everyone is told the same thing. Now I have a bunch of wristbands for the Alta that are going in the garbage!
Are the Alta wristbands compatible with any other trackers? Looks like they are all going in the garbage!

My fitbit is doing the same thing! I've had it for 1 1/2 years. I'm on disability and can't afford to get a new one. This is very discouraging if this happens after only having it that long.

Sorry, this replay is very late. In case you're still looking for another non-Fitbit brand, I recommend Garmin. Both my wife and I have the Garmin Vivosmart HR and love it. Totally waterproof, I take it to the shower and swimming pool. Mine is over 3 years old. Wife's is less than 2.

My son moved out of the house after college a few months ago. Some days ago, I found his Fitbit Alta that he left behind in his old room. After recharging it, it has the exact same problem as everybody else had already reported: it will NOT respond to taps if disconnected from its charger: the screen is totally blank although the Fitbit app says the battery is full. It only works when on the charger.
I've tried all the Fitbit suggestions I've read here on this thread and similar threads. So many people are experiencing the exact same issue. It looks like Fitbit does NOT want to fix it, not that it could not. Not a good move from Fitbit as it will lose a lot of current and potential customers.
Since this Fitbit Alta issue has existed for a few years now, I don't expect a resolution to our common problem.
BTW, there are many cheap activity trackers on Amazon/eBay (in the $20's). So just buy one of those and consider them as disposables/throwaways. At least, you know what you're getting: cheap no-names, made in China (just like my son's Alta, also made in China!).
But if like me, you need an activity tracker to get a discount on your medical insurance, just buy a known non-Fitbit brand like Garmin or if you're willing to spend money, buy an Apple or Samsung smart watch.

I have the same problem.
My fitbit and also my husband's fitbit, stop working when it is not on chafching.

I won my alta in work contest not even full 2 years ago, had one at the time so just put new one o the shelf for future. Future came, I opened it yesterday and it have the same exact problem - works only when on charger and it's fresh out of box... Really dissapointed

Having this same issue with an Alta HR that's never been used. Extremely disappointing as it was a gift.
Tried the rest numerous times, each time it just displays the battery symbol with exclamation mark. After a few minutes it will then work whilst still connected to the charger but as soon as it's disconnected from the charger the device is completely lifeless.

Wow. I searched this on google because I, too, am having this issue. What a bummer to see this is obviously a common problem and that Fitbit won’t address the underlying issue only offers a small discount and wants you to buy a whole new item. Shame.
