My Fitbit Alta only seems to work while it is charging . I have tried to reset it several times using the button on the charger. It syncs with my phone while it charges and shows full charge. Once I remove it from the charger, it does not work at all. It won't light up when not charging and my phone can't find it at all.
Any suggestions, besides the reset?!

I ended up buying a refurbished Alta hr on eBay for less than half the price of new and eBay offered a 2 year warranty for less than $6.

This is very interesting. I have just had this happen to my son's Alta which is 1yr & 2 months old. In our case, support were very easy to deal with and quick to send a replacement. However, we have received this and it is doing exactly the same thing. Only displays when charging!!! I am now waiting for a reply about this brand new one. All instructions from support do not help. Of course I tried the reset process on both and still nothing. Sounds to me like the Alta's are faulty and I would avoid buying another. Let's hope my other son's does not die now too.

Does anyone have recommendations on non-Fitbit brand replacements? Mine is 13 months old and started doing the same thing this morning. I need something of better quality that will have a longer lifespan. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I am getting exactly the same issue with my wife's Alta and have been trying to fix it for the past 24 hours. I'd even ordered a couple of new chargers from Fitbit in case the original was at fault. I am incredibly frustrated that the quality of the product (which was not cheap in comparison to other brands) is so poor. @MaginB what do you recommend ? is there any way that fitbit can replace my wife's faulty tracker like for like?

It would be good for Fitbit to actually say what the issue is. In this modern tech age most problems should be able to be addressed with a firmware update. If this is the issue then this should be what fitbit is prioritising over trying to get users to buy new discounted models. @ Fitbit can you please supply a definitive answer as to why these models are failing so soon after they have left warranty cover?

You were lucky! Mine lasted 3 months...
After reading all the posts here I have decided to also buy an apple watch. Thanks Fitbit for all these posts of non-help customer service (Megan?) which definitely impacted my decision. At least now I can stop looking for fixes and just throw the poorly manufactured fitbit into the proper place, the trash... mine did not even work for 3 months (my bad, I did not keep the receipt). If I could put a warning out to others, I would. Maybe the BBB can put out a warning?

I am having the same problem as the other posts. Fitbit only working when on the charger. Tried the reset of pressing button 3 x but didn't work. What are my options at this point?
I don't see restore purchases in the account.
