Alta shutting off

Is anyone else having issues with their Alta randomly shutting off and having to be plugged in to restart? I've had mine since Friday and have had to do it twice. Each time it's happened the battery still says it's full or mostly full. I tried calling the helpline but all I was being told to do was reset and sync. Both of which I've already done.

How do you check the firmware? My Alta is shutting down on me... First, it was a battery then, now they say it is a firmware issue. How can I get the error code?  It is out of warranty, but I haven't used it for 8 months, so I thought it was a battery. Now they say it is a display problem?

Do anyone know how to access error codes? I got the 25% discount, but seriously don't want to make another investment and get disappointed.

Good to see you in the Forums guys! 🙂

@riffox, I checked with the Support Team and it seems they've already got in touch with tyou.

@schin88, unfortunately, if this is what our Support Team has already offered, there's not much else I can do from my end 😕

Thanks a lot for your comprehension and anything else you may need, I'm always around!

The link at the "solution" https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Alta/Set-up-issues/m-p/1233890/highlight/true#M1293 no longer takes us to the solution!!!  The problem hasn't gone away.  Where can we find that solution now?

@JimSTX Thank you for joining us in this thread! I would like to follow up on the issue that you are experiencing and would like to know more details about the issue. If your Alta is shutting off, my best advice is to restart your Alta as described in this help article. Make sure to select the process for the Alta tracker.

Once you've restarted your Alta, charge it for 3 hours and see if the issue gets fixed.

Let me know how it goes! Smiley Happy

I am having issues with my tracker shutting off constantly, so I followed your link to the article for restarting my device. I have followed the directions to restart my alta multiple times, but my tracker WILL NOT restart. It just buzzes every time I hit the button whether it's three times or thirty (seriously, I did it). The "battery" icon stays on the entire time. This is getting ridiculous.

I recently started having the same problem. My Alta keeps shutting off even though the battery is not dead. I have done the reset solution as advised in this thread but it keeps happening. Is this just a money grab in order to be forced to purchase a new one at an offered discount?!

I am having the same issue!  This is my SECOND Alta to seemingly crash both hardly lasting 2 years each.   I am hoping there is another option to fix this issue or I may have to try a different brand of trackers.  Its too bad because when my Alta is working I really love it

Both Alta’s I have purchased are doing the same thing. I thought the first just needed to be replaced as it was a couple of years old. Now the new one shuts off randomly even with a full charge. I carry the charger with me to turn it back on, but it is frustrating to lose all those steps before noticing that it’s off. I have followed the restart instructions numerous times to no avail. Please fix this in a software update or something!

Mine is also shutting off. I have to plug it in to turn in back on. But, when I do that it shows the incorrect time. My battery is perfectly fine. Whenever I plug it in to turn on, it is mostly full or full. I hope you can help.

I have binned my 2 and would not recommend them to anyone, no support or
offer to replace them.

My Alta is doing the same thing. I have to juice it up and it starts again ... I went to bed and Alta was fine ... the next morning I went for my walk and darn if it didn’t shut down again. I lost all my steps. It’s doing it all to often lately! Yes battery fully charged!

Nothing lasts forever, so live it up, drink it down, laugh it off, take chances & never have regrets, because at one point everything you did was exactly what you wanted.

I totally agree about throwing it away! I've had fitbit products since almost the first one developed. Until this alta I've been happy. Now I'm ready to change brands. Don't know what else to do. This is my 2nd Alta and didn't even last 8 months and just keeps dying even with full battery. Reset, start again. Middle of a run, stops. Very disappointing! And extremely frustrating. Anyone know an actual solution?

Did you ever get a working solution? I've tried connecting to your instructions and can't seem to find them.

Well CrapTurds. I came here hoping to find a solution. I am on my second as well. They sent a replacement for the first, after I declined the 25% off offer towards a new tracker when mine failed one month out of warranty. This replacement started doing the exact same thing at the exact same time...one month past the year warranty. Lol

I am trying to decide on a new brand right now. It really makes me so sad. I'm totally disappointed.

I am very disappointed also! I have been researching other brands and still haven't come up with a solution. Been without a tracker for a long time now and not sure, especially after reading reviews, if I want to bite the bullet and try another fitbit. #undecided#frustrated#disgusted#game over. Let me know what you end up with

I gave up on it and bought a Samsung. Love it.

I've bought ionic after my both altas.

Ionic died exactly one year later. Killed by update probably.

Fortunately I've got warranty with mistaken month and was able to return it to the shop. They couldn't replace it with ionic but offered Versa and returned price difference.

Versa is generally ok but it's HR sensor is terrible. I've got only few nights with detailed sleep for last month. It constantly says that it can't read continuous heart read.

My next tracker will be definitely not Fitbit.

My wife's fitbit Alta has the same issue, it shuts down randomly and then as soon as I connect the charger, for a second reboots and shows that the battery is actually fully charged.

Yep! Wouldn't you think that fitbit knows this is happening, I mean considering how many people are having the same issue. And still they do NOTHING!

I think You are wrong!

They have seen what happened and they did something! Now Ionic tracker dies just few day after warranty period too! 🙂 I think all trackers will act the same now. It so fun to push people to order trackers every year! 🙂

Yeah, mine has been doing this for a while now. Of course, I'm out of warranty because it was a replacement of a replacement, if that makes sense. I've just been dealing with it while I research other brands. I considered buying a Charge 3, but at this point, I just don't have faith in the Fitbit brand anymore. It's infuriating to know this has been an issue for these trackers for years and they just don't care.
