Alta working only when plugged into charger

I just received my Fitbit Alta in the mail. I set it up like normal and it seems to only work when I charge it. I tried restarting and rebooting it about ten time but to no avail... It acts like it's even though it's fully charged. I can sync up to my phone just fine and everything except the Alta is fully functional! Can anyone help me with this as soon as possible?
