Fitbit was fully charged the night before. The battery drains within a day. Today the screen went black. App said it was dead but the HR lights were solid green and wouldn’t turn off.

How long ago did this occur? I went through a similar process, but they did not offer to replace it.

**THIS I S THE LONG EXPLANATION!, WITH MY STORY AND DETAILED DETAILS FOR THOSE WHO HAD THIER KID S SET IT UP..and NEEED A step by step.
SCROLL DOWN FOR A SHORTENED VERSION!! ... I REPLIED TWICE BELOW (with a version that doesn’t have chapters!!) ! Good luck... report back
( sorry- hope everyone gets to try this. Wasnt sure if I was supposed to REPLY to the initial question or the Last response.)
IF YOU HAVE PATIENCE... THIS IS WORTH A TRY: My ALTA HR went black and unresponsive at the same instant that I dropped my phone last Friday. It was dead until I got home and connected the charger. The green light was on and solid, but the screen was also spazzing... icons flashing fast. I tried everything (resetting several times, disconnecting, deleting and reinstalling the app, rebooting the phone, letting the device die, letting it die and stay dead over night, recharging and trying all these things again..). My screen went dark too so ONLY the green laser was on... this stage happened when ALTA had about a hour left till drain.
I gave up and ordered a used one off eBay.
It came on Tuesday evening and I felt better. This morning I pulled the dead one out of the drawer to swap bands... and I thought “why am I keeping this? Eh.. let’s try it one more time... just for S & G”
WELL I RECEIVED S&G ..LOL. .IT BEGAN TO CHARGE WITHOUT SPAZZING...I CHECKED IT IN A HALF HOUR... THE DARN THING IS WORKING PERFECTLY!!!
I THINK MY ALTA (AND HOPEFULLY YOURS TOO)...JUST NEEDED A 5 day VACAY to COMPLETELY...unwind and drain!
THE ALTA HR has to die, then continue to drain...while sitting in the drawer and get ignored for 4-5 days...to take the battery and all it’s teeny parts.. BEYOND DEAD!!
So- it’s worth a shot.
*Go into BLUETOOTH AND “forget this device” on bluetooth** IMPORTANT!!
*TURN OFF BLUETOOTH (try not to turn on BT at all) while we wait.
*Disconnect MR. Spazz from the app. “REMOVE THIS ALTA HR”
*Delete the FITBIT app...
*Put Mr. Spazz in a drawer and come back in 4-5 days. (Don’t know if my reconnect order had anything to do with the magic that occurred, but here’s what I did.)
On day 5 (this morning) I got it out of the drawer and tapped...he was still unresponsive.
GO CONNECT THE CHARGER WHERE IT WONT GET DISTURBED AND WHERE YOU CAN REACH IT....IT NEEDS STAY CONNECTED FROM HERE ON OUT AND DURING ACTIVATION.
*TAP as soon as you clip.. may be a few times...to see a “completely” empty battery symbol (it is dead AND overly drained). Reset buttons didn’t work at this point.
*WAIT A MINUTE OR 2- tap again. if you catch it, you’ll see an empty battery symbol WITH a teeny charge symbol in it..the reset buttons still didn’t have enough juice to work. * I DIDN’T TOUCH THE BUTTONS OR ATTEMPT ANOTHER RESET AGAIN!
*WAIT A MINUTE OR 2- tap again, it should show the symbol filling and the diamond..MOST IMPORTANT OT ME— SPAZZ was not being SPAZZY! It showed me the fill level, the diamond and then went dark
*WALK AWAY! DON’T CHECK FOR THE GREEN LASER!
*COME BACK IN A FEW HOURS and tap... WHEN BATTERY IS FULL...GIVE IT ANOTHER 15 minutes...😄
**LEAVE THE CHARGER ALONE... RESIST CHECKING TO SEE WHAT THE GREEN MONSTER IS DOING!
*WHEN SPAZZ IS OVERLY CHARGED, LEAVE IT CLIPPED AND SET UP YOUR PHONE.
*TURN ON your phone’s Bluetooth (SHOULDN’T SEE ANY ALTAS in that list lol) MAKE SURE THE LISTED DEVICES ALL SAY “DISCONNECTED.”
*Re-download the Fitbit app.
*Go through the activation process WITH the charger still connected.
————————————*********************************——————————————
** DURING THIS SET UP... TURN THE HEART MONITOR TO ***OFF***FOR NOW!!!
*******ALSO TURN OFF “ALL DAY SYNC” WHILE YOU ARE IN THERE!
————————————*********************************——————————————
*Don’t go back to the Bluetooth list on your phone...just make sure it’s on... and let the app do the rest of the connection.
* SUMMARY- LONG STORY LONGER. CONCISE STEPS: disconnect and delete anything FITBIT on your phone (“forget” Alta in Bluetooth list if it’s still there). Put Spaz or Kermit (or stupid) in a drawer for 4-5 days.. be BE PATIENT. Rescue Spaz and charge till FULL... turn on Bluetooth, Download new app, activate Alta Hr the way the app instructs..LEAVE THE CHARGER CONNECTED. WE DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE GREEN MONSTER IS DOING UNTIL ITS completely set up. When it’s fully connected to the app, cross your fingers
unclip charger...
*IF you are blinded by the light (SIDE NOTE-if you just sang that line, cyber high five to fun minds! 👍🏼🙏🏼. Lol) AGAIN-If that light is still stuck on stupid... I’m sorry... You just lost 5 days of your your life and I hope you stayed a bit fit. 😄take a deep breath and know that you tried everything. Get yourself a working device.
If your band magically came back from Zombie Land... let me know bc im curious! I’m excited...I don’t need 2 lol, but who knows how long this magic will last.

WOW! That's a lot of work, but worth it if I can save $150 ish...
My green light is effing blinding! I need to charge 2x a day, and called support and got no help. I think she thought I was crazy. And yes, I got the 25% for a new one offer. :-((

I got the same offer. Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Yes I agree, just a couple of months past warranty.

My display is ok, but the blinding green light is crazy! And I don't like having to charge it twice a day. So much for tracking my sleep!

I really don’t know how my post wound up being so long… I guess I was excited and in the zone!
All you need to do is Disconnect your Bluetooth, delete all the Fitbit stuff off of your phone, and throw your ALTA in your bedroom drawer for five days. I picked a bedroom spot just because it’s less likely get moved by anyone else.
Then after five days just plug it into the charger wait till it charges ALL THE WAY AND THEN SOME..now reload the app, turn on blue tooth and activate the band like you normally would. Just don’t take it off the charger until everything is complete!! Can’t stress that enough. Over drain it, over charge it, and try again... fingers crossed. (Oh and eBay has them refurbished for 30-34ish) and the are guaranteed and most come with a 30 day warranty at least... hopefully you won’t get that far!

DIC... I FIXED MINE!! I know you just ordered a Garmin… But try this… “forget it” on bluetooth and turn off BT... Remove Alta from the app! Them delete the app. NOW... Throw your Alta in your dresser drawer and forget about it for five days-
then take it out and charge it all the way full and then some. KEEP THE CHARGER CONNECTED while u turn on BT, redownload the app.. and go through the activate new device process. Leave it on the charger the whole time! After it’s connected, go to the settings and set the heart monitor off and turn off all day sync. You can put the heart monitor back on later once your all activated.. NOW take it off the charger and see if the green monster is still there. (Please let me know).
Something about letting it drain ALL the way and BEYOND.. and then giving it an over full charge charge before reconnecting...... I really have no idea… I ordered a new one! it came in the mail, I grab the old one to switch out the band and thought I would just try one more time before tossing it in the trash… The darn thing charged all the way and is working fine. So now I have two. LOL

Thanks, I enjoyed reading your solution! I went to bed with a full charge and this morning it was dead. I took it off immediately and put it in my bedside table drawer for a few days. I have deleted it from apps and bluetooth, and will try your method Monday or Tuesday. I really don't want to buy a new one, not yet anyway!

Wow, you're lucky to have gotten something out of them. My chat started in mid-July, I jumped through all their hoops and they haven't gotten back to me since July 26 when they said they had sent my issue to a "higher level of support ". I can't sleep with my tracker- the green lights are so bright I could bring down an airplane. Fitbit started the whole issue July 5 with their firmware update but won't admit it. I'm looking at other brands and will tell anyone thinking about buying F@#%bit to steer clear!

I agree, I've been considering an apple watch or a Garmin.

Mine did the same thing... I tried it when it was drained as well (same green light and spazz screen).. it worked after I had left it dead for 5 days.

Well, I let my unit die for 4 full days then charged it. The green lights are on as bright as ever, then it died overnight. (Hubby unplugged it before I could install the app and update Bluetooth.) One more try and I guess I need to buy a new tracker or something. :-(((

For all of us to have the exact same problem, there must be a common cause.
