Calories burned starting at 600+ per day even when not wearing device

Just spoke with a Fitbit rep and they informed me Fitbit bases Cal’s burned on height weight and age. I hadn’t worn this for roughly 6 months and put it on, no steps taken but 635 calories burned. Representative told me it tracks based on height weight and age for being alive. Has anyone encountered this issue? It seems inaccurate to say I’ve burned X amount of calories already without walking or even working out. Seems problematic when trying to account for food intake and calories burned to lose weight. Anyone have more information? Thanks!

Those are your BMR (basal metabolic rate) calories that you are always burning just to stay alive.  They are always credited, even when you are not wearing the tracker.  635 calories is not an unreasonable number to have in morning.  BMR calories usually account for more than half the calories we burn in a day.

If you scroll back to days when you were not wearing it, you should see the same number of calories burned each day.  That is your full day BMR calorie burn.

From How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?
