Charging Fitbit Alta for the first time

I just purchased my Fitbit Alta and I am in the initial charging stage. How can you tell if it is actually charging? I accidentally hit the small button on the USB cable and now it's not showing a thing on the screen. The Fitbit logo was there now it's gone, ugh, something so small should not be this difficult to charge

Thank you SO  much for this info - there is absolutely nothing on any insert or on the screen discussing the button by the charger plug in.  It's August 2018, and here this post from 2+ years ago is the only way I could figure out how to get it started. Seriously, Fitbit, you need to provide more information in more formats.  As the previous poster indicated, it shouldn't be this hard to start this device.

Same thing happened to me on the Alta I bought two days ago.  Nothing would work.  It wouldn't even turn on.  I had to take it back and exchange it.

I have recently purchased the Alta HR and it does not charge, upon researching on how to charge I have realised that mine does not have the 2 dots on the back that light up in he middle on the back

not sure how to add an image,,,

The 2 connectors on the charger are the wrong way and cannot connect with the 3 bits on the Alta.

I have the app on my IPhone., no where else.  How can I charge a Alta for the first time?

You need to plug the charger in. The charger has a clip looking thing on
one end and a usb plug on the other. Turn your fit bit over and there are
three gold dots. Line the charger up iwih them and plug into usb port.
When charger is connected properly fit bit will show a battery on the
screen.

Won’t turn on how long does it take to charge?

If it won't turn on there is something wrong with it. I had one that did
that and I returned it. You should at least see the image of a battery
when you plug it in to charge.

Are there directions anywhere how to register a new fitbit into an existing account?

If you are doing it from your computer:


1. Click the *Fitbit* Connect icon located near the date and time on
your computer.
2. Click Open Main Menu...
3. Click Set Up A *New Fitbit* Device.
4. Click *Existing* User and log in to your *account*.
5. Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue.

If you are doing it from your app;


1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap Account at the top.
2. Tap Set Up a New Fitbit Device.
3. Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue.
Note that you cannot set up a Fitbit Surge with a device running the Fitbit
app for Windows 10.

hi Cindy,

i ordered an Alta HR from Fitbit directly.  just got it in the mail & it will NOT connect to my phone.  blue tooth is on, data on, location on. tried restarting.... at least 3 times. any other suggestions or is the Alta a dud?

The fitbit was a dud. I returned it and got a new one and it worked fine.
