Clasping and switching your Alta wristband

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

One of the trickiest parts of getting started with a brand-new wristband tracker is simply learning how to get it clasped properly. The following post can help you with that!

How do I clasp my Alta wristband more easily?

  • Before putting the wristband on your actual wrist, you can clasp and unclasp your wristband repeatedly using both hands. This will help to loosen the holes in the band a little bit, and should make it a bit easier to clasp when it's actually on your wrist.
  • As detailed in this help article, most people have success with "pinching" the clasp between two fingers when they go to put it on. This will usually be more effective than simply pushing hard against your wrist, which is both awkward and potentially uncomfortable.
  • An awesome tip that has been shared by @Gmadiane is to place a drop of olive oil on the holes and push the clasp through. This seems to have worked for quite a few other users. Thanks for sharing!

  • Once your wristband is clasped, make sure that both the metal prongs are securely in their holes, as shown below on the left. If one of the prongs is still loose, as shown on the right, then the band is not yet secure and may come off your wrist unexpectedly.

We're confident that you'll be able to get your alta clasped with just a little practice. Don't be discouraged if it's difficult at first - it definitely gets easier over time!

How do I change my Alta wristband?

Fitbit Alta's wristband is detachable from the top and bottom of the tracker, so that you can replace it with accessory bands of different color or material. For help with detaching your Alta's wristband, check the steps in this help article, or watch the video below.

My problem is that my Alta wristband pops off my wrist easily. Would love to have a buckle like a watch to make it more secure. I have the "premium" blush pink leather Alta strap so I expect more security for £50

There are many options for bands on Amazon; I have purchased several from there at reasonable prices that seem more secure to me so I don't worry about losing it.

I can't explain the level of anger  I'm experiencing right now. Bought this product, can't put it on at all.

I'm not using my Alta anymore. So unbelievably disappointed that when my
husband isn't at home I cannot use it. I've tried buying straps from Amazon
but they don't deliver to New Zealand. So now I have a $200 Alta pretending
to be a dust collector.. Fitbit people if you read this, please help
because this is not a nice situation to be in

Don't let it get you too frustrated...it's definitely a design flaw. Try reaming out the holes with something just slightly larger. Also, dab a tiny bit of oil or lotion on the holes. Initially, try pressing your wrist, with the holes aligned, on a hard surface like a bathroom counter or a closed laptop.  I almost sent mine back, but after a few days of fastening and opening again and again and again, I was able to fasten it with one hand easily.

Thanks! It's actually a bit easier today, also my wife has helped. She will either love what the band is doing for me or hate it for helping me every morning Man Happy

So frustrating! It should track the number of times I tried.

Clasp it regular and put it on at the band/watch clasp.

Thank you and have a great day!

Instead of putting it on and taking it off with the band, put it on and take it off with the interchangable clasp (where you can switch the bands). It's quicker and much easier than putting oil on it.

They are terribly hard to close for about the first month of on and off. Push against your wrist as hard as you can...use finger pressure to push the metal spikes thru the little holes...you need to break those down a bit. I practiced with it off first until I got it worked in a bit.

Thank you!  Your post was helpful in my resolving my difficulty with the Alta strap closure problem I've experienced (but it really is a bad design issue!) 😎

Hi everyone -- make sure you're taking a moment to check out the super helpful tips in this post for clasping the Alta band (video included). The overall consensus I am hearing is that the band becomes a lot easier to clasp over time so keep at it if you can. Happy Friday everyone!
