Clasping and switching your Alta wristband

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

One of the trickiest parts of getting started with a brand-new wristband tracker is simply learning how to get it clasped properly. The following post can help you with that!

How do I clasp my Alta wristband more easily?

  • Before putting the wristband on your actual wrist, you can clasp and unclasp your wristband repeatedly using both hands. This will help to loosen the holes in the band a little bit, and should make it a bit easier to clasp when it's actually on your wrist.
  • As detailed in this help article, most people have success with "pinching" the clasp between two fingers when they go to put it on. This will usually be more effective than simply pushing hard against your wrist, which is both awkward and potentially uncomfortable.
  • An awesome tip that has been shared by @Gmadiane is to place a drop of olive oil on the holes and push the clasp through. This seems to have worked for quite a few other users. Thanks for sharing!

  • Once your wristband is clasped, make sure that both the metal prongs are securely in their holes, as shown below on the left. If one of the prongs is still loose, as shown on the right, then the band is not yet secure and may come off your wrist unexpectedly.

We're confident that you'll be able to get your alta clasped with just a little practice. Don't be discouraged if it's difficult at first - it definitely gets easier over time!

How do I change my Alta wristband?

Fitbit Alta's wristband is detachable from the top and bottom of the tracker, so that you can replace it with accessory bands of different color or material. For help with detaching your Alta's wristband, check the steps in this help article, or watch the video below.

Hi, I'm very sorry about the experience you have had with the Alta. If it helps any, the leather band is much easier to clasp -- you just have to be careful because the holes in the leather band will stretch out, and then you could very well lose your Alta.  However, I think a little O ring or small rubber band will act as a safety latch.  Again, I'm sorry about the problems you have had; Fitbit has always tried their best to resolve the few issues I have had.  Best wishes to you.

you can buy easier straps on ebay starting at four pounds some are less or put it in your pocket it works well there as well worth a try at least it wont hurt your hands that way

Then we should all be given leather bands. That doesn't correct the inaccuracies in sleep tracking though.

Thank you for this suggestion! It's brilliant!!

Fitbit should thank you.

I lost interest in my regimen but I still wear my fitbit out of curiousity...ONLY because you made this wonderful suggestion.

Otherwise, I would have thrown the **ahem** thing away.

I received my Alta earlier this week. It was a prettier option than my Charge HR. I've had a horrendous time trying to get it clasped as others obviously have had. Only worn it twice this week because of this stupid issue!
Here is what just worked for me & my tiny wrists: I took a rat tail comb and pushed the end (gently) through each hole on the strap in an attempt to stretch each one a bit. It worked.

I just received an Alta from Fitbit to replace my Damaged Charge. (The band came apart). I am having a very difficult time fastening the Alta band around my wrist. The holes seem to be to small for the prongs to snap in to. I am also having trouble with the taping to see the screen. Anyone else having those problems? The Charge was much easier to use.

Sometimes when I have trouble fastening my Alta, I will get it fastened into the holes before I wrap it around my wrist then disconnect it from the top part, wrap it around my wrist and fasten it there. Hope that makes sense. My black band and the leather one fasten easy but my turquoise one is a little harder.

I do the same thing because I use a BitBelt, and it's too much hassle to open and close. I wear it relatively loosely, and I can reach in and unclip it from the Alta and then just put it back on that way.

As to the tapping--tap it near where the Alta meets the band, or even on the band itself. That seems to work better for most people.

Someone on another site suggested taking off the band and fastening and unfastened it several times. I did that and it's much easier fastening it when it's on. I'm very grateful because I was beginning to dread taking a shower twice a day.

The only worry that it could become too loose.

Hey all - I just got my Alta today and one thing that I'm already doing is leaving just enough room that I can stick a finger under the band. From there, I unclasp the band as if I were changing it to a different one. This way, I don't have to struggle with getting the pegs in and out of the holes and I also don't have to worry about accidentally making the holes too loose.

Same exact thing happening to me. Bruised wrist. If you ever get it on I guess you don't have to worry about falling off!
