Clasping and switching your Alta wristband

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

One of the trickiest parts of getting started with a brand-new wristband tracker is simply learning how to get it clasped properly. The following post can help you with that!

How do I clasp my Alta wristband more easily?

  • Before putting the wristband on your actual wrist, you can clasp and unclasp your wristband repeatedly using both hands. This will help to loosen the holes in the band a little bit, and should make it a bit easier to clasp when it's actually on your wrist.
  • As detailed in this help article, most people have success with "pinching" the clasp between two fingers when they go to put it on. This will usually be more effective than simply pushing hard against your wrist, which is both awkward and potentially uncomfortable.
  • An awesome tip that has been shared by @Gmadiane is to place a drop of olive oil on the holes and push the clasp through. This seems to have worked for quite a few other users. Thanks for sharing!

  • Once your wristband is clasped, make sure that both the metal prongs are securely in their holes, as shown below on the left. If one of the prongs is still loose, as shown on the right, then the band is not yet secure and may come off your wrist unexpectedly.

We're confident that you'll be able to get your alta clasped with just a little practice. Don't be discouraged if it's difficult at first - it definitely gets easier over time!

How do I change my Alta wristband?

Fitbit Alta's wristband is detachable from the top and bottom of the tracker, so that you can replace it with accessory bands of different color or material. For help with detaching your Alta's wristband, check the steps in this help article, or watch the video below.

Fitbit Customer Service has been wonderful! I just received a replacement band, the exact model you described. It is precisely what I needed.

Sadly, I won't be part of this community anymore. As of early last week, my Fitbit came off of my wrist and I have been unable to locate it. It had come off several times in the past if I brushed up against something and I was always able to find it. Was just a matter of time before it came off and was lost due to the faulty band. The only silver lining in that cloud is that Fitbit FINALLY changed the band so that it is more traditional and secure.

Sorry to see my Fitbit go, especially since it was a gift from my son.

I now have the new band with a buckle for my Fitbit. I do not worry anymore about losing it because it falls off. So, I guess I can close out my post.

This is the worst design ever for a wristband. I wonder how many tests were performed before this went to market.

I could not agree more. The company should revise the band and offer it to any one who bought this model. Shame on them

I wholeheartedly agree that buying and trying to use the bit is an exercise in nothing but frustration.

I think there ahould be a recall and all bracelets replaced replaced with something that works.

Some of us have had no problems.

The snap band was so much trouble and frustrating to put on each day it was ridiculous.  I even tried switching wrists and now both thumbs are sore from trying to clasp it.   I went to Amazon and bought a better band, switched bands and it fits so nice.   Too bad I couldn't use the band that came with it.

Just to let you all know, the "alta"  has a new buckle band, as well as the regular snap band. So, now there is a choice.
Hope this helps

Honestly this is a crappy design.  I hope the fitbit folks are looking at how many people have issues getting this band snapped. I have to struggle and struggle and it's almost to the point that I'm going to return it and order something different, which is a shame, because I love the Fitbit Alta itself.

Why not just have a buckle design option?

I'm 65 and this is REALLY more difficult than it should be!

They now have a buckle design too.

They do?

I wonder why it wasn't offered.

I'll go look in the store. Thanks.

It's not just an issue of buckling it. I lost mine within 6 months of receiving it as a gift because the design made it so that if something got caught underneath the band, it would come unfastened. I had noticed that it had happened several times in the past and had always found it, but this last time I did not realize that it had come undone and fallen off of my wrist.

I'm definitely not happy with Alta and I've noticed that the moderators will give all kinds of advice, but when you lose your Alta, all that I hear is crickets.

I have had my Altra for 6 months and in the last 2 months I have lost it 4 times (thankfully  returned each time...just pure luck). I am diligent in ensuring the clasped are connected but now I am afraid to wear it! This fitbit is useless, unless I can find a solution??????

Have you tried one of the buckle bands for the Alta, @ER75? They are available thru Fitbit and thru third party sellers.

When I first ordered my alta, I had read about some little silicon bands available through Amazon so I ordered them just in case I needed them and they help.

I bought fitbit security fasteners on Amazon. They are silicone and come in all colors to match my bands. They really work at holding the band together if it does come apart.
