One of the trickiest parts of getting started with a brand-new wristband tracker is simply learning how to get it clasped properly. The following post can help you with that!
How do I clasp my Alta wristband more easily?
We're confident that you'll be able to get your alta clasped with just a little practice. Don't be discouraged if it's difficult at first - it definitely gets easier over time!
How do I change my Alta wristband?
Fitbit Alta's wristband is detachable from the top and bottom of the tracker, so that you can replace it with accessory bands of different color or material. For help with detaching your Alta's wristband, check the steps in this help article, or watch the video below.

I respect the points of view expressed within the Fitbit Community. We are all different. Regarding my original remark of being "...one of thousands..." I take this opportunity to retract such wording and substitute it for "...one of the innumerable customers who have suggested a buckle closure option for their Alta." .
I belonged briefly to the group that has issues with putting on the band, but once the tight perforations became more flexible, it was no longer a problem. Then, after I "almost" lost tracker on two separate occasions, now I belong to the group that has to use sliders in order to keep it secure. The inconvenient part of this is that it is only after you "almost" lose your tracker or after you actually lose it, when the deficient security of the band becomes real.
Part of your comment appears to imply I am referring to the tracker itself. Such is not the case. My issue is with the band. I am also an informed buyer. I checked out the features of the various Fitbit devices before selecting the one that would accommodate my needs/wants. I am very happy with my Alta tracker and expressed that sentiment on my post.
I'll keep checking if buckle options become available through Fitbit or other sources.
Working on getting my steps in.
Happy Stepping!

Thank you for clarifying, @Michfit. And I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your comments regarding the devices. It seems we are pretty much in agreement, then. I love my Alta. It is the best Fitbit device for my needs. I mastered the snapping/unsnapping but also purchased a different, third party band with a buckle closure.
Now, back to stepping! I had a total knee replacement last March. I'm using my Alta to help monitor my progress. I especially like the feature that reminds me to get up and move every hour.

I got this alta for Mother's Day from my kids. Great gift, but I HATE the strap. I wish they'd make a strap with a watch type buckle. I can see myself just giving up on the thing because it's such a pain to put on.

Hi everyone, I received my Alta a couple of days ago but have solved the problem with doing up the wristband. I can't do it up the "proper" way at all so this is what I do ......
I'm right handed but are wearing my Alta on my left wrist. When I have taken off my Alta to sync or whatever and want to put it back on, I don't put it on my wrist at first. I close the wristband up and press the two metal prongs into the holes I would normally use when it's on my wrist. I then release the strap from the right hand side of the tracker. I can then wrap the Alta tracker and wristband around my wrist, and then reconnect the wristband to the Alta by holding the tracker part down onto my wrist with the index finger on my right hand and then easily reconnect the wristband onto the tracker with my thumb and middle finger of my right hand while still holding everything in place. Takes no time at all and is so easy. Simples ...! x
