Let Fitbit know your band fell apart they will replace your Charge. It happened to me too and they sent me a new one.

I don't totally agree that it would have added (too much) bulk though.

The Fitbit One tracks floors, and that's simple and small.

I don't understand why they couldn't do the same for the Alta.

I have had mine for 3 months and it had a bit of water dropped on it and it warped the next day and the armband broke. It fell apart. Is this normal? You said it was good in the rain etc... so why did mine not last very long?

I don't understand what the big deal is about it only tracking steps.

There are plenty of Fitbits to choose from. Of course I wish my Alta did everything and as I live 5 flights up and skip the elevator for extra exercise it would be great to track, but I don't NEED it. It still tracks the activity as steps. I chose the Alta for motivation, price and looks. I don't expect it to do everything a bulkier and (imho) uglier band would do.

The Alta just gets me into the Fitbit mindset while looking least gadgety. I'm just not willing to slap a bigger machine on my wrist - as a Fitbit in my opinion is a fancy string-on-your-finger reminder to move more. If features are more important, get a Blaze, Surge or a Charge. Hell, the Charge 2 is the exact same price!

On a related note, if you want to go running, don't buy a pair of heels.

Nope. Very disappointing. I was on the stair master for a half hour at the gym and it didn't track one step.  So annoying!
