I've heard the heartbeat doesn't even work on any Fitbit.

Please dont say that! We must try it first... i am really hoping it works.
I have a samsung note 5 i wish fitbit was compatible. I use the HR on my
phone and it seems pretty accurate, but will test next time im at the
doctors. I will confirm if my phone HR works lol. Fitbit has an awesome
sale, but i know if i buy one now the waterproof ALTA will come out and im
not buying if its not waterproof...

I am sorry. I get discouraged easily. People have told me steps aren't even accurate. I don't know. I do love my Alta though 😊

Ok we are going to get it together try testing putting the alta on your
shoelaces and see if it works better during certain exercises... i have
done this and tested in my les mills body attack class. I works better on
my shoe then my wrist for tracking lol. Yet in my les mills body combat
class its on my wrist not my shoe. Its a Shame i watch my wrist so much
people think im looking at the time i bet lol, but nope im counting steps

As per the product page, it is waterproof to an extent. Just don't wear it
in the pool (and definitely not in the ocean).

"Water Resistance
Alta is rain, sweat and shower proof, but not swim proof. Rinse and dry
Alta after showering because it’s best for your skin if the band stays dry
and clean."

As for tracking exercise, it can only track motion it can detect. It would
never work on a stair master because your arms don't move when holding the
rails. Placing it on you sites or ankle fixes this since your feet are
doing all the moving.

This is why the elliptical machine is specifically mentioned as a supported
exercise, since your arms move very clearly. I would image a rowing machine
and similar exercises would get tracked as well, but since they're not
specifically supported they wouldn't get recognized for exactly what they
are.

Since the Alta does not track floors, how about a manual method to enter floors. My iPhone tracks floors for me. If the fitbit app interfaced with that data, like some other apps, it could automatically update, but I'd settle for manual entry.

It does register your heart rate

I find the reasoning questionable considering that it's not any smaller than the fitbit one which does have an altimeter.

I agree. It’s my fault. I just assumed it would count floors. I was looking to change from my Fitbit One to something I could wear on my wrist. I used to hook the One to my bra strap. This is a real disappointment..

From what I gather, there's no display function to track floors, but it tracks the steps only.
