@ADOC I recommend restarting the Alta and then giving the firmware update another try. Let me know if that helps get you back on track.

I have done what the instructions said to restart my tracker and still get the ! mark. Any other help?
I just got mine 2 days ago and it's charged up to medium.

I've done everything listed and my Alta still won't work. It was fully charged yesterday but I believe the message I get is that my battery is empty. To note, I've had issues with this battery in the past, even with turning off Bluetooth. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yup I deleted the app from my iPhone and redownloaded it and it finished the update and now works again. But remember to remember your password for your Fitbit account before you delete it.

Hi ErickFitbit,
Thanks for trying to help out, but your post is only frustrating users. If you read the original posts, you'll see that the RESET does NOT help. In my own experience, the Alta does not reset when showing the !. p.s. I've tried the 3 clicks and also the 2 seconds & remove techniques. The Alta only turns on/off the !
Like other users, I was in the middle of an update that got interrupted. Is my only recourse to return the Alta?
Note: this is all about the PC. I will try to get the Alto to connect/run using the original phone too.
BUT PLEASE, DO NOT TELL USERS TO ATTEMPT RESET WHEN THE ! IS SHOWING AFTER AN INTERRUPTED UPDATE. You're giving bad info (or else I have a bad original new dongle).

Same thing -- the ! does not allow/enable the reset.

I have no other device to synch it with. What do I do to get rid of the exclamation point? It's just stuck.

I searched half the internet for a solution with the exclamation mark.🙈
My solution: Try a different phonedevice to do the firmware update.
I tested some older phones: Samsung, Cubot, Geotel: everytime the update brokens at ~2% and after this: Exclamation mark!
Then I told my daughter 😁 she came along with a newer Samsung phone. App installed, Fitbit connected (this works with exclamation mark too, because there runs some kind of mini-OS), and started the whole configuration again and updated again, then it WORKED, the update takes some minutes and after this everything runs at a charme.😳
Background: I think, older smartphones have older Bluetooth equipment built in. This the fitbit (or a Samsung Galaxy Fit with exclamation mark too) dont like 🙂
But you never get an error-message 😝
May be the developers like to test only with new hardware around them. Older Smartpones are not hip enough 😉

I know this post is old but I just had this same problem so I thought I would post how I solved it in case other people are still having this problem. I tried everything that other people posted: pressing the button three times, restarting my phone, deleting and re-downloading the Fitbit app, turning off Bluetooth and turning it back on but the solution that finally worked was I opened the Bluetooth page on my phone, I clicked on the Alta HR (which said connected), I clicked on “forget this device” and then I opened the Fitbit app and it finally started to sync properly. Hope this helps!

The actual answer is this after 4 hours of my life doing all of these other suggestions:
-Download the fitbit app on your computer form the microsoft store.
-Uninstall fitbit app from your phone.
-Sign in to your fitbit account in the app on your computer (the app from the microsoft store)
-Connect your alta hr bluetooth to your computer. (your phone is still off)
-Then finally it will let you update the firmware to your fitbit alta hr.
-Then you can turn on your phone, install the fitbit app, and it will need to sync a few times, but it will finally take and work, as it needs a bit of time to tell your online account that everything is updated.
