Fitbit Alta Won't Turn On

I have tried restarting my fitbit.

Yesterday I looked at my fitbit and it said I had 3000 steps. A few minutes later I went to look again and my fitbit stayed black. I just ignored it.

Today I tried to look at my steps and it wouldn't work! I came back here to look and restarting didn't help. I tried everything I could think of! Whenever I try to connect to the app it says "looking," and never does anything.

Please help!

Abigail

My Fitbit Alta is brand new as well and I can't get it to work.  The only thing mine says is "www.fitbit.com/setup".

I have tried resetting it, I downloaded the app to both my computer and my phone and made sure my blue tooth is turned on but it won't sync or really do anything.

I used mine for about two months, then when I went to charge it, it didn't
show that it was charging. There's nothing, and since I got it in April, it
cannot be returned. It's just a black screen. Super disappointed in the
product.

Nice to see you here @herblady28 and @Sgarza1977@herblady28 Please make sure that you have setup your tracker by following the steps described on this setup guide. Remember to take a look to the list of compatible devices before setting up your tracker.

@Sgarza1977 To make sure that your tracker is working correctly, restart it. Also, dust and debris can accumulate over time and prevent a charge. Clean the charging contacts using the instructions in How do I clean my tracker?

If you haven't done so, try a different port. A UL-certified wall charger will also work. Don't use a USB hub. And, check the alignment and try reconnecting your tracker to the charging cable. For illustrations and tips on how to know if the connection is secure, see How do I charge my tracker?

Hope this helps, keep me posted! 🙂

Thank you for all the advice, but my fitbit screen is blank. Nothing at all. I've done everything that's been suggested, and since I received it in April, I cannot return. Lost money, I suppose. 😒

My Fitbit Alta is fully charged, but the screen is black. Yesterday it stopped tracking my Hourly Activity right after I charged it. It was still tracking my steps, but not showing that I was moving every hour. I tried to restart it several times last night. I unsynced, resynced, logged out of the app, etc. Followed all the directions from different forum posts. This morning I noticed that it did not track my sleep activity last night. Now, the screen is black when I tap it. It's no longer tracking any steps and I cannot get the Bluetooth to recognize it.

RIP Alta??

Yes, I did attempt to restart several times to no avail. I also tried cleaning the connection prongs with a Qtip.

I tried this four to five times and it still isn't working. I am getting very frustrated and I am about to return it. I called Fitbit support and they were no help. I spent half an hour confirming my account and after they confirmed it they asked me "Did you double tap the screen?" Of course I double tapped the screen! Your product is just not working properly. I can turn it on as it is charging but once I take it off of the charger it doesn't want to turn on. I have also reset it and everything but it just isn't working. Someone please help me.

I would return it that's what I had to do with my faulty one.

Is there a real solution to this?

Mine was working just fine, but seeing as I got a new Fitbit I had no use for it. It has been sitting in storage for a few months. Today I was going to let someone use it and it wouldn’t turn on. I know the charger cord is fine, it was just replaced right before I stopped using it. The usb power block is fine, it will change my other Fitbit. Pressing the button on the charger cord does nothing.

I've used a Fitbit for over 4 years.  Very familiar with the charging (and issues over time) and I'm on my 3rd one.  I don't mind having to replace the device when the batter life won't support at least a day of activity.  In December I bought an Alta.  No issues and batter life has been great. Took it off the other night to charge and when I put it back on it has stopped working.  When on the charger I can tap through the time, steps etc.  As soon as I take it off the charger it is dead. I've tried every option I can find online and through the forum, restarted, restarted, left it sit for a few days, restarted, hooked up to the computer and still the same results.  What next?

Thanks for stopping by @Rick0502 and @John0916! I appreciate that you have shared all the steps that you already took and for all the research you did before posting.

Please, test the following suggestions:

  • Dust and debris can accumulate over time and prevent a charge. Clean the charging contacts using the instructions in How do I clean my tracker?
  • If you haven't done so, try a different port. A UL-certified wall charger will also work. Don't use a USB hub.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your tracker to the charging cable. For illustrations and tips on how to know if the connection is secure, see How do I charge my tracker?

I did all that. Mine was working 100% until I let it sit for a few months. Now it just won’t turn on.

Did you figure this out?

I put mine on charge last night working fine and this morning nothing at all,  tried the reset and syncing, different charging port nothing helps. It's only 2 and a half months old!

I got an email telling me to reset that's it..  After explaining I have tried all that and it still does nothing and isn't recognised anywhere. My battery wasn't even completely dead when I put it on charge and it's not even 3 months old.  Guess it's time to switch to a Gammin
