Fitbit Alta battery dies immediately after unplugging from charger

Hey Everyone,

My girlfriend's 3 year old Alta is not holding its charge after unplugging from the charger. It syncs fine while it's plugged in. I can even change the clock face. But when I unplug it, the Alta almost immediately dies. If I tap on it while I unplug it, the Alta still functions. But as soon as I let the screen go dark, I cannot get the Alta to turn back on.

We've been using a generic charger for a year now so we can't reset it the normal way. I'm afraid if we buy a new charger from Fitbit, it won't make a difference, and we'll be stuck with a dead Alta and charging cable for a device we can't use. Anyone who's had the same issue, purchase the original charging cable and have issue resolved? Or is this a battery is no longer functioning and needs to be replaced kind of thing?

Judging from my past experience with Fitbit Customer Support, they'll ask me if I've followed the rebooting instructions. And once that option has been exhausted, they'll tell me my device is out of the warranty and offer me a 25% discount on my next device. I've had battery problems on my ChargeHR, which was replaced once while in warranty (then died later that year) and also on my Charge 3 (which died in September and was not covered by the warranty).

Reading other threads, it sounds like the battery only last a few years, which gives me pause to purchase another device. My girlfriend and I loved our fitbits but not sure if replacing them every other year is worth it. Anyone have any advice or methods to fix my girlfriend's Alta?

I have had exactly the same issue and have tried the reset options etc but nothing has worked. Im afraid it may have reached the end of its lifespan. i have had mine for 4 1/2 years. have contacted fitbit but have received no reply.
