Fitbit Alta randomly shuts off and won’t restart

My Alta randomly shuts off throughout the day and the only way to get it to work again is to connect it to the charger. But the battery isn’t even close to needing charged. I’ve tried restarting and resyncing with my phone but it still happens. How can I permanently fix this issue?

I have the same problem, too. It's possible that the gold pins in your Alta accumulated dust over time and you may need to clean it. Cleaning  it with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab might help.

Hi,

My Alta is brand new and I’m having the same problem! I tried the restart procedure but that didn’t seem to work, very frustrating!

My Alta wouldn't restart, either. It worked for two and a half years until July 2019. I gave up trying to restart it and went back to using my Zip.

This keeps happening to me too.  There is another thread with lots of comments saying the same. It’s obviously a known fault there should of been a recall for this Fitbit! I have tried restarting and it’s made no difference 😡

Same here. I reset it, fully charge it, and then it does in the middle of the day. Very frustrating!

I'm in same place. Went back to basic Alta after upgrading wasn't giving me stated benefits. Bought an Alta in Jan 2019. I try to keep it clean - wiping regularly, cleaning the pins with qtip.. It's charged. Annnnnd, it randomly stops. Third random time. This week.

I replaced my original Alta on November 26 because it was doing this. The new one is even worse and everyday i have to do something to get it to start. What frustrates me even more is that there is no way n this website to ask a question or send information to someone that might be able to do something about it. Why have a product that only works when it feels like it? And why would the company want to lose users? I can't afford an Apple watch - and don't want one. Now I need another health tracking solution as Fitbit isn't it.

Not when it does it when it's brand new.

I agree! I had high hopes that my Alta Fitbit would be my main digital watch but i can’t get through 24 hours at this point without it shutting off
