Ever since I did the update I've noticed my Alta all of a sudden shuts off with no warning. Every time the battery is on yellow but not dead. I get nothing on the screen and it stops syncing. I mainly use it for phone or text notifications so not having it working with no warning is a problem. I am able to restart it by plugging it in. But that option is not always available. It never did that before the update. Now I regret doing the update.

Don’t know as mine updates automatically.
My replacement came from Fitbit so wondered if it was reconditioned. Have ordered brand new HR hoping it will be ok. However, if it is a software issue I might have wasted my money
Thank you for your reply. Have downloaded the update for the app. Will see how this goes

I updated the app, and no change. My fitbit had the same problem as others: turn off at about half power, started after the firmware update. I was limping along for weeks, but something changed and the last two weeks it powers off as soon as I disconnect it from the charger. Everything is normal as long as I keep it plugged in (don't wear it). It's trash now and I'm concerned that a new one will have the same problems. I am Firmware version: 21.21.40.2

Update not fixed the problem here , either. Turned off again.
New app had no effect. Mine turned off this afternoon after 16 hours since being charged .
Update didn’t work for me

Fit are saying quite a lot really by their silence towards everybody’s complaints. Once again my Fitbit has just decided to switch itself off at 75%. I’m thinking maybe I need to charge it overnight every night might as well have bought some cheapo pedometer instead then.
come on Fitbit get a grip and look after your customers!,,

Nope, your update hasn't fixed the fault! My 16 month old fitbit has turned off again this morning, and before you ask it was charged Thursday evening because it had switched off at some point during the day.
Get it sorted Fitbit, it really shouldn't take this long to at least revert back to the last update that worked!

This just began happening to me this week. Last week I could go 4 days between charges. First time I look at time and fitbit is dead. So I charge it, and then it has wrong time, so I sync it (with much difficulty). During the week syncing is not working, so I go through all the steps to get it to work, finally it syncs. Fully charged fitbit last night, this morning it is dead again - fully charge it, time is wrong. Tried everyones suggestions, nothing works. So I contact fitbit, spend over an hour doing the same steps, can't sync with phone but finally syncs with ipad. Then she wants me to do battery drain test! I ask why, she says to determine if its a battery issue. Battery going from full to zero in less than 24 hours twice in one week is a battery issue! I say so if I do the test, what then - well, it is out of warranty, so I'm not going to bother, and you can't replace the battery either. Just a little frustrated right now, wasting an hour and finding out my only option is to buy a new fitbit.

Is there any way to know exactly the amount of charge on a Fitbit Alta rather than a guesstamation from the dummy battery icon? Would really like knowing exactly how much charge is on the Fitbit once it indiscriminately shuts down.
Sadly reporting the update did nothing to solve the problem. Once the Fitbit hit the 75% level it shut down as it has previously. I've just about thrown in the towel on this. Very disappointed that this did not solve the issue.
Fitbit, please solve this problem. This many people cannot be having the same issue coincidentally.

Hi everyone! Thanks a lot for your patience with this.
After @EdsonFitbit suggested updating your Fitbit app to the latest version, I've read some of your reports on this that there has been no improvement at all. I'd like to know more of other users that are experiencing the same issue even after updating your apps.
I've forwarded all this information to the pertinent department for them to dig deeper into this and get a solution for it.
Anything else you may need, I'm always around and again, thanks for your patience!

My app updated on 10/3 and my Alta shut off on me on 10/5....battery was still at 50%. Plugged it into the charger and it came back on. Charged it fully and it has been on since but I make sure to put it on the charger every time it's off my arm for more than a couple min. It seems if I keep it charged above 50% it will not shut off. I used to be able to go at least 5 days without having to recharge it so this is extra annoying as I'm always afraid it's going to shut off when I'm away from my charger.

Ferdinand, thanks for continually coming back and checking on this thread.
My Alta had shut off. I charged my Alta. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but even when charging the Alta for 8+ hours, the wavy lines show in the battery icon and only at 75% after charging. I then have to go through the reset process of pressing the button on the charger. Eventually a full icon will occur.
After my Alta was completely charged, app updated, and Alta synced, icon showing a 100% charged, the same event occurred of Alta shutdown at approximately 75% showing on the battery icon.

That is exactly what is happening to mine! I really think it is their issue and I hope it isn't on purpose so that everyone will buy another one at a 20% discount!
I am also having the same issue. They gave me the offer of 20% off on another Alta and I told them I would go to a different product like Apple. I think it is very odd that everyone had problems at the same time! Sales gimmick?????

I've been having the same problem with my Fitbit turning off. Just started happening after the last software update. Plugging it in to the charger does resuscitate it. Getting annoyed with the 'lost steps' because of this problem.
Unfortunately doing a reset is not an option as I had to buy a new charger when the last one fell apart & didn't realize that the 3rd party chargers did not have the reset button.
