Fitbit Alta suddenly turning off

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Ever since I did the update  I've noticed my Alta all of a sudden shuts off with no warning. Every time the battery is on yellow but not dead. I get nothing on the screen and it stops syncing. I mainly use it for phone or text notifications so not having it working with no warning is a problem. I am able to restart it by plugging it in. But that option is not always available. It never did that before the update. Now I regret doing the update.

Thank you all for getting back and thanks a lot for understanding!

As I have mentioned before, as much as I would like to offer any different alternatives, I don't have a way for doing it from my position.

If you're still having issues with your Altas turning off all of a sudden, let me know. I'll be happy to escalate your cases to our Support Team for them to take a look at your case and help you out with the available alternatives based on your warranty status.

Any other thing you may need, let me know!

I’m having exactly the same issue with my not quite 2 year old Alta ‘dying ‘ when the battery is still 3/4 full & having to recharge it to get another 10 hours or so.

Yes, I still have to charge my Alta every day!  I am a Flight Attendant and I depend on my Fitbit to give all my passengers the correct arrival time.  This has gotten so bad that I carry a regular watch with me and my Fitbit charger!

I discovered something... mine does whenever it goes off for an alarm or a message. I think there is a drag of power to make it vibrate which kills it. I wonder if there is a resistor in it. Mine died 3 hours after taking it off the charger last night and only required popping it on the charger to restart it. Didn't take a full charge. Today, it died as soon as my alarm went off. I immediately plugged it in and it restarted. And said it had a full battery.

I've now been given the code for 25% off a new one and they won't deal with me anymore. I'm so pissed. I won't be buying  a fitbit product again.

During the day I have noticed mine stopping when I get a text. And I do not use extra battery for anything but text. Mine stopped yesterday. I had charged it 36 hrs earlier. I got a text notification it died. I plugged it in. When I pull it off a few minutes later my app showed green full charge. 1 hr later app shows yellow over half gone.

I have received an email from Fitbit but at 25%, it’s not worth the hassle. I’d rather buy another brand.

Mine has been doing the same as well. I had it on the charge yesterday morning. I wore it around work from 9-3:30 and it died. When I got back to work to charge it this morning and plugged it in it turned back on as if it was dead but showed 3/4ths of a battery. This is very aggravating for me as my steps and activity are tracked for insurance purposes at work.

I find it very interesting that I have been calling for months on this problem and it was only happening like every few weeks. I called the other night and was finally given the stupid 25% coupon (such a joke). Within an hour of calling, my fitbit basically had a final heart attack. I can't get it to stay on for more than an hour now. In that hour, it doesnt sync and does not alert to messages or calls. It's like they did a final shut off when they gave me the code  I am so done. I used to be able to just plug it in and it would reset with a full battery. Now it's taking a few hours and shutting off in less than an hour.

I haven't used my Fitbit Alta for about a month and on the occasions when I have managed to charge it and get it working, it turned off again shortly after.  I was hoping for an answer on this forum, but it seems there is no solution, so I either need to buy another one or a cheaper version.  If I want another Fitbit Alta, can I get a 25% code?  If not, I will definitely be going with a cheaper brand, since I bought my Fitbit Alta in May 2016 and would have expected a tracker of the Fitbit price range to last longer!  Thanks.

Same here, I just stopped wearing it because there have not been any
updates. I am still waiting for a FIRMWARE update but nothing in the weeks.

Mine has been doing the same thing, I've only noticed it in the past week. It has full charge and won't stay on unless it's on the charger.  My app is up to date (v 2.82, updated today) and I'd tell you what firmware I have but it just turned off again.  Please advise, thanks.

There's not much you can do.  Ferdinand, one of the forum moderators, has offered to escalate these cases to the Support Team. He's tried very diligently to help solve the issue, but got no further than those of us here on the board. Translated, all they will do if your Fitbit is out of warranty is give you a 25% discount coupon on another Fitbit. NOT a solution in my book.

Fitbit knows the problem exist, but refuses to correct it.  I will not be purchasing another Fitbit product, nor would I to want to recommend to anyone to purchase one as well. Everyone here whose Fitbit is out of warranty has no recourse but to speak with their pocketbook. I've already done so.

Got one at a third of the cost that will also tell me my O2 level, heart rate, blood pressure, sleep, and exercise.  I cannot tell you the brand or I will be booted from this board due to the community guidelines.  I mentioned it before, and received an email that I had violated community guidelines and the post was removed. I actually found mine through a Facebook ad.  If the one I replaced my Alta with only lasts as long, I'm ok with that since it wasn't nearly as expensive.

Hopefully, I'm not violating any community guidelines telling you I've purchased another brand. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

So disheartening trying to use your Fitbit for a really good reason is impeded by an issue Fitbit refuses to correct.  If you are within the one year warranty, sounds like Fitbit is willing to replace it. If not, the best those of us with the problem have gotten is a discount coupon toward another Fitbit.  I said no thanks and moved on. Hope you can get your problem resolved.

I am having the same problem with my fitbit Alta, it just shuts off.  Like everyone else, I thought the battery died but not so.  The battery was no where near depleted.  When I connect it to the charger, I can see there was plenty of battery left.  I've left it on the charger until it's full and then the time is incorrect and I have to sync it to get that updated.  I feel better that it's not just my fitbit but it's frustrating because it's happening too often.  I've had my fitbit since May 2016.  I hope there is a resolution soon because I'm thinking I'll need to change to another device.

There are many of us here on this thread who have been experiencing this issue since September.  Not sure there will ever be a solution.  We have pleaded and begged for Fitbit to do something.  Even Ferdinand, a forum moderator, has tried.  All we get is crickets! Their solution is for us to purchase another Fitbit.  😛  NOT a solution for me.

I am not allowed to discuss other trackers on the Fitbit community board according to their community guidelines.  They will delete the post anyway.  I found mine through Facebook.  That's about as much as I can say.

I was reading the "Alert" about Daylight Saving Time issues and thought how great it would be if while they are dealing with this, it fixed the shutdown issue many have reported here!  Smiley Happy Hope springs eternal; however, I will not hold my breath. LOL

I also purchased my Alta May 2016. I wonder if it is something with that version of Altas????  They did give me a discount good for 30 days off the purchase a new Fitbit. PattySent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

@FerdinandFitbitI would like to thank you for checking on the statuses when you can.

So found a WORKAROUND (which means not acceptable solution and shouldn't be long term). I figured out that if I reset my fitbit daily it will give me the correct battery level. This is actually a very fustrating thing to do. I know as long as fitbit doesn't fix this I will never get another fitbit again.

I have made sure to reach out to fitbit on every social media platform every time I see anything from them in my feeds to inform them of the issue and hopefully raise awareness.

Also the 25% off coupons.. like buying a fitbit on black friday is going to be way cheaper. I will wait the extra few days if I'm going to buy it.
