Fitbit Alta won't stay charged

My Alta fitbit was working just fine and just this past week, it will not hold a charge. 2 times in one day my fitbit totally died. I was able to hold a charge for almost 2 days, and now I can't even make it 4 hours and it's almost dead. Anyone else having this issue?

Hi - having exactly the same issues with a fitbit just coming up to 1 year.  Reset it yesterday and while it lasted a tiny bit longer and did at least sync,  it did not last more than half a day which is less than useless. This happened very suddenly - until last friday it was giving me up to a week of charge. I will keep syncing it and charging but what are my options - will fitbit replace or do I have to go through the shop i bought it from?

Hi,
Fitbit have just replaced mine under warranty, it’s a two year warranty for those of us living in the E.U. they are very good. If you contact the help desk they will advise.

That’s exactly what happened to me. Mine was under the 2 year warranty which we get in the UK so they replaced it. Weren’t going to at first though so don’t just give up. Good luck

I can't even get mine to buzz and restart anymore.  It buzzed a couple of minutes ago, but now nothing.  I purchased the Fitbit on Amazon, new, on 2/20/18, so should still be under warranty.

Hi there @jsbofaz and @Den18 thanks for sharing your feedback. Smiley Happy

It is very helpful to have your comments. Thanks for all the steps that you tried to fix your Alta. For all users that keep having this type of issues with the battery of your Fitbit consider these tips when you want to conserve battery life:

  • Shut down your tracker when not in use (option for Fitbit Blaze and Surge.)
  • If you use the Fitbit app, make sure All-Day Sync is turned off. All-Day Sync increases battery drain on both your tracker and mobile device. To find the setting, open the app and tap Account. At the top of the screen tap on your tracker name to see your settings, then scroll down.
  • (Android only) Turn off the Always Connected setting. Similar to All-Day Sync, it can reduce battery life.
  • If you don't need heart rate data, change the Heart Rate setting to Off. When you turn it back on, use Auto.
  • Charge your tracker more often if you use music control frequently.
  • If you have many silent alarms set, remove some. Each alarm you add up to the maximum of 8 reduces battery life by a small percentage.
  • Turn off Quick View. Since it causes the screen to light up when you turn your wrist towards you, turning this setting off may prolong battery life. To find the setting, open the app and tap Account. At the top of the screen tap Surge and scroll down.
  • Restart your Alta.

Also try to clean the contacts of your tracker regularly. These contacts can become obstructed by microscopic dirt or debris that prevents them from making a good connection to the charger. Use a toothpick or toothbrush to clean the charging contacts; do not scrape them with anything metal because this may damage the plating and result in corrosion.

If this is not helping we might have to check what is the next step with our support team.

See you around.

I had  the same problem. I was wearing it for days at a time and suddenly it completely died. I can't get it to charge enough to even take it off the charger. Within hours it's dead. I use it for an alarm clock. Picked out up of the charger at 10 pm and it was dead by the time my husband came to bed at 1 am

Thanks for your attempts to help your Fitbit Alta. I'd suggest to perform a restart on your Fitbit and try the steps on the post above. Have you tried to clean the contacts of the charger?

Having the same issue as everyone else here. My Alta is not keeping the charge. I got my Alta at the end of 2016. I even tried calling fitbit, but didn't get any help from them also. Really disappointed in the service.

I tried this restart 3 times, and my fitbit alta still does not hold a charge. I find this so frustrating, because this is like my 4 fitbit, and they all seem to die after a year! Oddly, right after the warranty expires... I won't be buying another one. Guess it's time for me to switch to the apple watch. Sick and tired of the same crap happening with this crappy product!

Still didn't work.

Im really sorry u didn't get help with ur altra. Did u get the extra year
insurance on it? If u got it in the beginning of 2016 fitbit only covers
for 1 year. I hope u can get this issue taking cared of. I have always had
very good service with them. They r replacing my altra but I just got mine
this year.

I'm having the same problem. My Fitbit Alta is 2 years old, I've purchased another Fit Bit Alta charger, I've Google'd every 'fix', I've done all the button-holding and second-counting, and nothing. Four hours is all I get. When the charger's plugged into the USB port in my computer, or synced on my iPhone, the battery icon shows Full. On my Fit Bit it indicates very nearly full. I seriously don't want to spend money on another one. So annoying!
