I used to track my average sleep time in order to focus on getting more sleep. This has changed to show sleep score which I don’t find useful - does anyone know how I can change this back?

Hey everyone! Thank you so much for your feedback and the details shared.

Fitbit sleep score is now available for everyone, there's a free and a paid version. You can learn more about it by checking this article: What's sleep score in the Fitbit app?

Average sleep was removed and now you'll see sleep score. Currently, it's not possible to see this in the app but you're still able to check it in your online Dashboard.

I'll be around if you have any additional questions.

A warm welcome to the Community @SunsetRunner. I appreciate the details mentioned.

If you're seeing the sleep score, it means that you purchased the Fitbit Premium. You can learn more about it by checking this article: What's sleep score in the Fitbit app?. However, you should be able to see sleep stages too. Are you trying the 7-day trial of Fitbit Premium?

Let me know how it goes. I'll be around if you need further assistance.

Hello, my fitbit  (charge 3) used to give me average sleep time, and suddenly replaced it to sleep score. How can I change it back to average sleep time?

Best Answer

I do not have fitbit premium. I am stuck with sleep score. Care to explain @SilviaFitbit ?

Best Answer

This response from Fitbit is not helpful. We want to go back to seeing our average sleep. The sleep score is not helpful, and I certainly don’t recall signing up for anything Premium!

Best Answer

I just bought this Fitbit to track my sleep hours NOT to be scored. As unable to edit /turn off then I will just toss it and go with another brand. Not a smart move Fitbit. Lost a customer

Where is Sylviafitbit's response?

Best Answer

Hi Sylvia,

This doesn’t respond to or help resolve the question posed. Nobody wants the sleep score - it is entirely useless. We want to view our average sleep again, because that is helpful information for health decisions. If Fitbit is no longer committed to supporting our health and just wants to have nonsensical updates like this, you will lose many customers. I’ve already come across 5-6 main posts on this site regarding this same issue, and all the customer replies are saying the same thing. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE CUSTOMERS. We want sleep average back, and we want to remove the sleep score. It’s not because we’re old farts who hate change - it’s because this update is truly not helpful and what was removed WAS helpful. For some of us - it’s the reason we bought Fitbit over other products.

Hi Silvia,

Thanks for confirming these details. As you will see in these comments and other threads, customers are not happy with this change. We don’t want sleep scores, because 1) it’s arbitrary information and has no basis for measuring actual, quality sleep; 2) it makes people feel like their sleep is being judged and generates pressure, anxiety, and stress; 3) it doesn’t take into account the countless people who have job or life situations where they have to sleep in short shifts throughout the day or are dealing with insomnia and trying to build up sleep as much as they can. Sleep average was useful information, and this needs to be available in the app again. Customers have been directing one another to poorly rate the app as a way to make our voices heard, because we have no confidence that comments in these threads are going to make a difference.  That will turn away future customers because they can compare product apps and select a device that has better ratings. I want you to know this information, and I strongly encourage you to take it as high up in the bureaucracy as you have access. Fitbit will lose customers over this change, and I think it will have greater impact than they imagine. It may seem minor to the developers, but several of us purchased the Fitbit devices for the sole purpose of sleep tracking, and you have now placed a barrier to us being able to easily view and make decisions based on data we previously had access to in the app.

We DON’T WANT sleep score - why can’t you guys listen to feedback? It is meaningless information- please go back to average - or at least offer the option.

Or goodbye Fitbit!

Best Answer

And I didn’t accept this as a solution - that was automatic too - Fitbit is becoming increasingly irrelevant, soon to be obsolete!

I have now just rated this Fitbit App in the App Store as a 1 star and wrote a negative review about the sleep score. I hope more people do the same. This is a terrible change to the app!

Best Answer

I’ll do the same - it’s about time developers actually listened instead of just changing something that actually works - change for the sake of change!

But I don’t want to even SEE the darn sleep score!

Sleep score is meaningless  Who decides what constitutes good sleep? I have trouble sleeping  am a restless sleeper and I have a score above 80 every night

I am trying to get more HOURS of sleep after reading the importance of that in the excellent book "Why We Sleep." The weekly average hours of sleep was IMPORTANT to me  Sleep score means NOTHING. Who thought this was a good idea??? Perhaps Fitbit should ask their users what would be useful before changing a good thing

If anyone has decided on a replacement tracker similar to Alta HR, I'd love to hear what you chose. Between this sleep score and text messages not working, I've about had it.

So you essentially made the app useless to those of us monitoring our average sleep and I will be deleting it and not using the app from now on. The sole reason for getting Alta hr for me has been the original sleep features you took away in the app prompting me to go with another company/brand

Hi SylviaFitbit

your response shows that you don’t actually read the feedback on this page, if you did you would realise what you said just made people - your customers - more frustrated and angry.

Well said, jmmeow. I've never been so irritated by a software decision as this. In addition to valid concerns and complaints many have expressed about the "sleep score," implementing it the way they have is an insult to their existing customers. How dare they replace useful data with a judgment grade, call it an upgrade, and then require an upgrade to "gain insights" into the new rating system.

In 24 hours I've gone from loving Fitbit to being disgusted by them. I doubt that was their intention when they designed their new upgrade, but it's what they've earned.

My developer score, which I just devised on the spot - much like their sleep score - reads "very poor."

Sleep score is useless.   I will be purchasing a different Tracker if this is not corrected soon.   I agree with comments made here.  How could such a drastic change be made without feedback. The score is useless to me as I am trying to determine hours slept and averages.   The option should be available not taken away.
