I used to track my average sleep time in order to focus on getting more sleep. This has changed to show sleep score which I don’t find useful - does anyone know how I can change this back?

Silvia, as a moderator, can you please contact the Fitbit development team on behalf of all the users? Please let them know what people think, and how let down everyone is with the new updates.  The new sleep score is giving me sleep anxiety. 😞 Please help us out!

Well I just agree that this answer has made me even more cross than waking up yesterday to find that my sleep has been scored and not the average AND that I do not have the choice to go back to the hourage. Like others I wear my Fitbit overnight specifically to get the sleep average hourage on the app.  We are all different in how we sleep- where is the research information that these scores were determined by:  were insomniacs, those with depression/anxiety and sleep disorders as well as cross section age wise, used in the trials to ascertain and develop these 'scores'.  Scores are not at all helpful .

You obviously haven't read previous comments and your information is incorrect.  I certainly did not purchase Fitbit Premium or start a 7-day trial, I just woke up yesterday to find that the average sleep times had been replaced by scores without me updating anything.  Usually I manually have to update the fitbit - why has this been done automatically?  The sleep stages can be seen but now I have to add up the week's hours and divide by 7 to get the average.  I don't want to pay more to be able to see it and I certainly don't want to have spend ages delving further to try and find the info.

Well I was considering upgrading my current Fitbit to another Fitbit but if the sleep score is not going to be optional (ie ability to return to old format) then I will be another lost customer and opt for another brand.

Well written!

After my Fitbit was updated it won't show a bar for 9.5 hours, target 7.5.  Can you fix both? Before the update it worked fine. Also the Android and desktop bar charts don't have the same pattern. Which one do I beleve?

No one wants to sleep score----go back to sleep average.

Stop messing with what works!

Listen to your customers and read these reviews....we are all saying the same thing.

Figure out a way to make it an option, so we can turn it off and go back to sleep average.

Thank you.

Hey everyone! Thanks for getting back. Sorry for the delayed reply.

I truly appreciate the time that each of you took to share your feedback about sleep score in your Fitbit app. As mentioned above, our only objective at Fitbit is to implement features that can help you reach your exercise goals.

Your feedback is being heard and this is why we have our Feature Suggestion board, those are reviewed by our team and the status changes based in Fitbit's plans. I found these two ideas that you can support by voting and commenting on them: Removing the sleep score and Show average weekly sleep hours again.

Remember that you can still see your sleep average in your Fitbit.com Dashboard, the sleep score is a feature only implemented in the Fitbit app.

I'll be around if you need further assistance.

Thank you SilviaFitbit for your reply.

However, I don't quite understand :-

You say that Fitbit's only objective is to implement features that can
help us reach our fitness goals - what evidence is there to show that the
average sleep hours wasn't achieving that objective? If it wasn't
achieving that objective, therefore necessitating the change to a 'sleep
score' - I would be interested to understand how a sleep score fulfils
that objective. Presumably considerable research went into the development
of this change and perhaps it could be shared with the wider Fitbit
community. It would be far easier to 'accept' such an uncommunicated and
sudden update when the science behind the scores is explained e.g. how
different conditions and life choices such as anxiety, insomnia, new
mothers, shift workers and sleep apnea are included into the equation to
produce a score and not just 'one size fits all'.

I do, of course, realise that I can access the hourly average by going into
my dashboard on my laptop rather than looking at the app on my phone, but,
that is not the quick and easy method that most of us want in our busy
lives.

I have voted on both the links you provided but, what was so difficult
about making this an option e.g. like which watch face we can choose to
use?

I am afraid that although I have resisted constant recommendations from
friends to change from Fitbit in the past, I shall be purchasing a
different brand (within my budget) once my current Fitbit gives up the
ghost.

This change takes away one of the most important reasons I use a Fitbit (Alta HR). As a 76-year-old who has trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, I use the average hours throughout the week to add naps to make sure that I reach my minimum sleep goal--I use that information every single day. Now I would have to go through and figure the average out in some manual way myself. I don't want a sleep score...at my age, I just want to use a tracker to help me do whatever I need to do each day to get adequate sleep. Please restore the average hours option to the IOS app!!!

No I didn’t sign up for premium. The sleep score just showed up and I d like a solution from you on how to turn it off. I don’t want anyone scoring my sleep. Like many on these threads, I will discontinue Fitbit and find a tracker that actually listens to what users say that want.

Best Answer

I don’t think you are really listening to us. We do not like sleep score. Also I have lost a lot of sleep history of with this new format.  There is no data for several months ago and further back. Also I used to be able to get monthly averages, but no longer. I am not happy.

Please give us monthly data as well as a longer history. I have no idea why you did this. Sleep scores are worthless.

You can still see your sleep averages if you go to your dashboard online. Just can't see them in the app, which is were we all WANT to see them.

My sleep score dissapeared. How do I get it back.

Best Answer

Just woke up and saw a sleep score instead of average hours slept.  Not surprised so many people are upset. This means nothing and I can no longer see the useful information I want.

I do NOT use a computer to view my fitbit info. This needs to be available in the dashboard in the app. IT IS NOT.

The app told me I am apparently now doing a "week free trial of premium."  Is this Fitbit's way of taking what people have been using since purchasing their products, but now making them pay to see???  Will I have to pay to even see the sleep hour chart (that should be first before "sleep scores") once this ends?

Because, I'm not familiar with consumer laws, but this seems like a fraudulent practice.  What's been available as free and what people purchased their products for and what has been advertised as fitbit features for years, should remain free.

I am looking for my next fitness tracker. I was happy with my Alta HR, which I bought mainly for sleep tracking. Is there any good similiar product there?

Hey everyone! Sorry for the delayed reply.

I continue to appreciate your feedback and comments. Thanks for sharing how you feel with sleep score implemented in the Fitbit app. As mentioned above, we truly appreciate this feedback and this helps us to improve our services and devices.

I totally understanding that this isn't what you're wishing for. If you go to the Fitbit app and double tap on Time Asleep, Deep and REM or Restoration, it will show you the sleep stages that you used to have.

I found these two ideas that you can vote and comment on it: Show average weekly sleep hours again and Make sleep score optional. The status of them will change based in Fitbit's plans.

I'll be around if you need further assistance.

Thanks for the reply, it is good to know someone is looking at the feedback.

The suggestion you offer does not address the request. It seems that while the new sleep score may appeal to a few users there are many that want the option to turn it off and return to the previous method of sleep tracking.

I have enjoyed my Fitbit for over 2 years now but this issue is enough for me to consider an alternative. I know there are many others like me and see that this problem was identified months ago. It seems Fitbit is not listening or don’t care.

Thanks for getting back @Versa2017. I appreciate that you've shared your experience with Fitbit.

I totally understand your feedback, while some might love this others might want to keep the old version. The best place to make your voice heard is our Feature Suggestion board, the status of these ideas will change based in Fitbit's plans, as you could see in these two: Show average weekly sleep hours again and Make sleep score optional, they have been reviewed by moderator.
