So I am going to get a large version to decide which size is right for me. Using the Fitbit sizing paper strip, I fall right in the middle. I already set up the small one. If I need to return the small one, how do I factory reset it and clear the data?
I found instructions for many of the other bands but not this one. Anyone know?
Thanks!!

You do not need to reset it. Once its taken over by someone else it will reset at that time

Interesting. How does someone take it over? What do you do to it to force it into a pairing mode?
When I got it, I plugged it in and it started looking for its first connection.
I do see I it looks like I can delete the device from my app... there's a trashcan in the upper-right corner.
(and thanks, Wendy, for your quick replies... makes me want to use Fitbit!)

Start by charging your Fitbit using the USB cable. There should be a button on the end of the charging cable near the computer, it has a button and press that button three times within 8 seconds, paling between presses. After you see the Alta logo, unplug the Fitbit from the charging cable.

I added device-my daughters alta hr- to my app. I did not realize it would connect the 2 to the same info. So my info was transferred to her fitbit and showing my steps and other info. I deleted the device from my phone app and put it on the ipad. The alta hr will only sync with my phone now. I am unable to sync it to the ipad. So it does not just automatically reset to the next user even after deleting it in app. It has to be factory reset with the button im told. Will be trying this tomorrow.

@Prinjess You can't do a 'factory reset' on your tracker. The small button on the charging cable restarts the tracker - it does NOT reset it. There is nothing you can do to wipe it clean, but the records it has are connected to your account and will not show on a new account. When someone sets it up as a new device on a new email address it will set up as new with no records.

Instead of buying a new tracker, just purchase a large band (either from fitbit, or a third party on Amazon). The bands are easy to switch out.

Ditto to the above. You could even try the old standard alta bands which appear to cost even less now that the alta hr is out than they did when I bought my spare leather. I think my leather at the time was marked $60 (I had a $50 best buy gift card to use) and I just saw them marked on bestbuy site for $30 with the new alta hr leather straps being marked at $60.
I was actually going to sell my old standard alta with original band and keep the spare leather band but for what they sell for used I think I am going to keep it as a backup in case my alta hr ever dies and so I have more band options.

I just bought an Alta off of Craigslist. Do I need to reset it? I do not want the other person able to see my data (kinda creepy). How can I make sure that I am retrieving their data or them retrieving mine?

When you set up your fit it account with your email address and add the fitbit as a new device, any previous info will be erased (as it is not linked to your email address) and the old owner wont be a le to access your info as he wont know your account address or password. So there is no need to be concerned.

Hello everybody. Thanks for helping each other. I would like to just clarify some doubts. In order to restart the Fitbit Alta the button is located in the charging cable but not in the tracker. The steps can be found in this link.
You can set up more than one Fitbit tracker to your account but they cannot be of the same model. You can pair for example a Fitbit Alta and a Fitbit Alta HR to the same account.
If for any reason you would like to return your tracker it is not necessary performing a restart nor a factory reset. This second process is applicable only to the Fitbit Charge or Fitbit Charge HR.
To resolve set up issues please refer to this article. If this doesn't help please reach out the Customer Support.
Whether you don't want to continue receiving notifications from this thread you can click the gear icon in the upper right corner and select "Unsubscribe"
The only information stored in your Fitbit Alta HR is what it has recorded during your activities, like steps, distance, calories, etc. There is no personal information stored in your device. If you don't sync during 7 days the stored data is deleted automatically.
Let us know if you have any questions. We will be happy to help.

As far as I know the only way to do it is to set up a new account with a different email address.
