How to correct the step count after Alta turns off unexpectedly mid-walk

Whilst out walking, my fitbit Alta suddenly turned off without warning. How do I correct the step count? I could not find a way in the app, but there must be a way somehow (It's a legal requirement from GDPR!).  (Charging worked when I got home, but I got no notice that it needed charging, unusually).

use your app to Log what you lost.  My Alta has been having issues for months!!!
