IMEI or Serial number - Fitbit Alta HR

Hi Guys,

Apologies if there is a similar recent post but I cannot find anything specific or a how-to on an issue I have with the sale of my fit bit Alta HR.

Long story short I sold it fully working etc and buyer through eBay has stated the screen is smashed but still working and I have simply to return the item which is another story altogether.

Point is I'm 99% sure they have swapped it with their own onto my bands and box and now I need to prove its not the same one.

Usually, with a phone etc you can access the IMEI or Serial etc and something will match on the package box to ascertain its the same device as packaged. Is there a way to do this?

Only other option I can think is if they have not reset either or device and I can somehow check the profile even relink back to my phone as the data may still be there.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You might try restarting the tracker by using the button on the USB end of the charging cord three times.  The battery icon will appear, then the IMEI.  At least that has been my experience.

Hi @crc87  not sure if support could help you, but you can try. Their phone number is (877)623-4997 between the hours of 4am-8pm PST Mon-Fri, and 6am-5pm PST on weekends, if you're in the USA. The phone number to call from the UK is: 0800 069 8505. Operation hours: 9:00am - 6:00pm. If you're not in the USA or if you prefer an online chat or email, then click for contact options

Guess you didn't add insurance to the package?

@Missli  the number you see when you restart the Alta HR (or any Fitbit) is the firmware version number for that particular style of device.

Thanks guys,

Ill look out for it on my return really frustrated with ebay and the lack of help for buyers.

I did take the suggested ebay delivery which covers me for up to 25 but they paid around 50 plus I know it wasnt damaged in delivery due to careful and protective packing etc.

Ebay has told me as they have claimed its not as described I MUST return the item and can always then dispute and according to Ebay forums its wide spread people taking items and replacing with old and opening cases to force the seller to retake the item.

I know 110% it wasnt cracked prior to me delivering it so I am having to take these measures on checking the item as best as I can that they have switched it.

Only other explanation is they have smashed my actaul watch on opening it and now stated its been sent broken.

Anyway sorry for the rant just the time and precautions to try and sell on some good equipment. Just watch if using ebay in the future, this isnt the first time according to forums and apparently unless its clear as day its not the same one sent Ebay will just keep the buyer happy and toss our losses to the kerb.

Ill try support in uk here, will try tomorrow and on receipt of item being returned from buyer will try the IMEI or serial, hopefully something on watch ties to code on box (or doesnt in this instance) to prove my case.

Thanks will update you on how I get on.

It's a shame this has happened to you @crc87  I have the Alta HR myself and careful packaging would surely protect it in the mail. Ebay does seem to have guidelines that protect the buyer. Have they told you if they would do anything if it turns out that the Fitbit had been swapped? Seems it would involve your returning the device back to the buyer? Do keep us posted. I'm curious!

Thanks, yes it's a buyers world and I am all for helping out but I am a private random small seller, will always post my items well protected and listed as seen, I am just approaching this one with caution as I am not happy that they may have switched this and left me with a broken item regardless.

Time will tell when it comes to retrieving the IMEI they preached to the choir bit too loudly for my liking accusing me of sending it broken nothing to do with them or the slim chance of damaged in transit etc.

It also had screen protector and extras there also.

Anyway just watch as to what's selling as I have been on eBay forums and this is a mainstream problem as buyers now know they can switch and simply say item is broken and you must return the item then appeal the case back to ebay.

I made the point that eventhough I wouldnt obviously do it but I get the item back say broken, go back on ebay buy some other alta hr get it say its broken take pics of the broken one and pass it back to some poor seller, thats basically what its set up to do, unfortunately.

Best practice is to keep note of IMEI and or Serial and even security mark it somewhere in case of dishonest buyers.

Thanks again guys will keep you updated.Might need some assistance when I get the item back and check for codes on device and box to hopefully appeal the case properly.
