Is the magnetic band to blame that my Alta HR stopped working?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Alta HR (2 years old) stopped working earlier this week but after reading the various topics I wanted to at least try.  It wouldn’t wake up even though it had been charged .  The button on the cable didn’t seem to be doing anything but I managed to wake it with a quick on and off the charger clip several times. Then I let it reset plugged into the computer overnight. This morning the Alta showed a message to set it up at Fitbit.com/setup.  Whoaaa...I set it up and ...it’s working.

my question is about the band:  I wear it with a metal mesh band that has a magnetic wrapover clasp.  Can this magnet interfere with the battery?

also, this is written in real time, so we still don’t know how long this second life will last...but I am curious if I should change the band to prevent problems? Thank you

Hi @Sylvia2021  glad you got your Alta HR going again. I would think the magnetic clasp wouldn't be a problem, as there are some chargers that attach magnetically to other Fitbit styles To be sure, I've asked a moderator to stop by to answer your question. I love my Alta HR, too.

I had wondered that as well! - my Alta HR has been having some weird battery/charging issues. It seems a bit better without the magnetic band - but it hasn't disapeared

It's nice seeing you at our community @Sylvia2021@Odyssey13 and @Diane175. Thanks for sharing your inquiry about the metal mesh band and your Fitbit performance's inquiry.

As @Odyssey13 mentioned the magnetic clasp shouldn't be a problem. I would ask an expert about this but as mentioned, there are some chargers that attach magnetically.

What kind of charging issues have you experienced @Diane175?

Mine won't charge any higher than 80% and turns itself off often, even if the battery hasn't run out completely.
It's a hand-me-down - so battery life is likely the issue.

Same problem! Two weeks ago, it was fine, charged fully and the battery lasted nearly 5-7 days. Now, it barely holds a charge more than a couple hours, TOPS! So frustrated! I've followed all the tips/steps from Fitbit. And still the same issue.

I have loved my Alta HR and don't want to have to buy another new Fitbit! This was already an upgrade from the Charge HR, and like I said, it worked fine until two weeks ago.

What I can tell you is that my Alta was doing the same thing until it went stone cold dead. I kept trying to revive it following the suggestions to click the button and when that didn’t work, I kept snapping it in and out of the charger trying to get the battery to charge up. The fitbit logo showed up so I just left it on the charger which was plugged into the usb. After a few hours the logo was replaced by fitbit.com/setup. Whoah… so I did just that…the fitbit finally rebooted. However, the heart monitor no longer works. But the steps are working and it syncs with iPhone.
Rebooting is a finicky process and takes time …patience fir sure.
