Lifespan of the Fitbit Alta

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have read most of the posts on problems with Alta charging and staying charged.  I have restarted my device several times, cleaned my charger and Alta battery areas, tried to charge on a computer versus the wall and even tried 2 different Alta chargers to ensure it wasn't the specific charger I was using which was faulty.

I received my Alta as a Mother's Day gift last year, so it's not even 1 year old.  I've already had to replace the band because the glue came undone on the part that connects to the actual Fitbit.  What is the average lifespan of a Fitbit Alta?  I love my Fitbit, but don't think it's a good investment to buy a new one every year.  It's a shame because I also received the Fitbit Aria scale as a Christmas present, so I'd like to stay with this brand and would hate to have to switch activity trackers.

Any help would be appreciated!  Cheers!

Unfortunately, technology just doesn't work like that. Especially with
heavy use and wear.

Apple watches will last about 4 years, but they cost 3x as much.

I just got my Fitbit Versa today and am so excited!

In 2017 I was given an answer by Fitbit,  I followed it and my Alta has been running perfectly ever since.

I am sad to say that I have deleted the 2017 file with the answer in it.

I just popped on this thread because my Alta won't keep a charge.  I've done all the troubleshooting - cleaning the charging parts, restarting it, etc.  It will say it's at half charge and then a couple hours later it's completely dead, with no warning at all.  I've stopped getting the low battery notifications.  I've tried turning on all-day sync and off all-day sync with no difference.  I bought my fitbit a little over 3 years ago so I guess it's time for a new one.  Prior to my alta I had the flex and that also lasted about 3 years

My first two fitbits lasted a little more than a year each. My current fitbit (an Alta HR) is just over a year old. Because of the short lifespans, I bought a 3 year extended warranty with the Alta HR and it's still ticking...

Alta face is blank, app shows full charge.

what could be the problem?

@Pmgm1973, I did revive a fitbit once by performing a reset several times over a few days. But that was probably a fluke. If your firmware is not the latest, updating it might help. Read the manual. But most likely something died in the fitbit electronics display driver. Call fitbit. If it’s in warranty, they will replace it; otherwise they will probably give you a discount for purchasing a replacement.

Do other products last longer or do they all have about the same one year life expectancy? Pretty sure my fitbit alta died this morning and want to know if i should replace it with another alta or maybe something more like a charge 2?

They stopped making Alta years ago. I tried buying one on Amazon and ended up with 3 different duds. I assume the battery died ~3 years from mfg And the last one charged me $40 restocking fee! I’m done with Alta!

I currently have the Alta and have had to replace the band recently. Easy enough through customer service as my device was less than 1 year old. Now they have stopped making the Alta. I don’t like the Inspire and they don’t do the band colours I like in the Versa or Charge so I guess that’s the end of my FitBit journey.

I wanted to pop on though just to mention that a device should be fit for purpose and by that one would hope it might last longer than a year?

I've had my alta 20 months and now it has packed in. I have the original band as new. I also have a metal link band and a metal  magnetic fastening link band...all now redundant as the bloody thing wont charge.  Not happy with Fitbit at all. Happy to pass on to anyone who needs them.

I bought an Alta HR directly from Fitbit about six months ago, so they didn't stop making them years ago.
