Recently took out and have yet to activate a new Alta HR fitbit and it won't hold a charge for even 24 hours.

Hi @Moeparrish  the Alta HR was discontinued around 2019, so even if it was in an unopened box, the battery could be dying. Any chance you can return it where you purchased it?

Nope, bought on Ebay about a year ago for when the current one in use dies.

Shouldn't Fitbit have to stand by ANY new device fresh out of the box regardless of how old?

@MoeparrishI don't see how they could. The warranty is always for the original purchaser and from an authorized retailer. Beyond that, how can Fitbit or anyone know how an item was stored? I've read posts on these forums, that taught me something about  places having a way to professionally rewrap items so you'd think they were sealed at the factory. You got it a year ago and left it alone, but you don't know how it was treated before you purchased it. Heat ruins batteries, so what if someone had it stored in a hot room or too close to a heater in the winter? Sometimes we take risks in purchasing a back up device. A friend of mine has a brand new Zip, unopened and it's getting to be at least four years old. When the old Zip dies, this one might not be able to get updated. Fitbit only updates these devices for two years after they are discontinued. I'm not sure any of this helps you, but pretty much, all you can do is restart the Alta HR and see if the battery life improves. It might never do better than it is now. Maybe you can try charging it at night when you shower or watch a movie. Sorry this happened to you.
