Starting an activity manually Alta hr

Thinking of purchasing an Alta HR but want to know if I'm able to manually start an activity like I currently can using my charge HR. I often do HIIT activities which may be 15-20 mins  and if I rely on the auto track it would only record the last 5/10 mins. On my charge HR I can press the side button and start and end the activity. I'm aware there's no button on the Alta HR so is there any other way to manually start an activity?

It has a few setting that you can change,  like it will only track you after 10 minutes of jogging or 20 minutes of walking etc but otherwise you could for low heart rate activity just take note of the time you did it and "log previous"  for that time (however long you did it)

I wish i would have researched Alta hr more.  I use the manual start everyday.  I do activiities that i like to time and now i cannot so that.  Very disappointed.  How does tracker know that i am doing an activity if heart rate does not change much.

I know I can manually do that but it adds extra steps for me to take note
and try to add after. I should have researched better before buying. The
manual start was something I use minimally twice a day and now those
activities will not be logged because I will not go in a manually add. I
will never go back to the fitbit HR because of all the problems I had with
it breaking. I think the apple watch is in my future.\

Well it is after all an activity tracker and only takes a few seconds to log it in the manual way but if that's too much hard work then that says alot. I don't mean to sound rude but it's not a hardship.

Will you confirm that your product is a fitbit alta hr?

Mine is still in the returnable period and i am bothered by this. Do you know of any similar wrist worn hr monitors that have this function? All of the research on all this stuff is daunting! Thank you!

Not a hardship if you can write precise previous activity logs (which it seems like ios users dont have the ability to do)

Emphasis on the word precise

You are rude!  Not everyone is like you! Thank god.  If you ever had a Fitbit that with a touch of a button you could track an exercise you would find entering it manually a pain!   If you cannot be more positive keep your posts to yourself!

Exactly how i feel.  I am past return period and i would not purchase this Fitbit again unless they add a manual start.

I did have the previous Charge HR which did have the button on the side and as stated in my first post I found it annoying that my new model doesn't have this, But on a positive note being able to log it manually is more accurate because if I had been to a class or activity started the log with the button then sometimes I would forget to stop it and it would still be recording when I'm driving home till I remember to stop it again, Now at least I can put 30 mins/45 mins or 1 hour 10 and it logs exactly. What I meant exactly about it not being a hardship was if you spend time in the app everyday or other day looking at stats/ sleep,  logging water etc then it only takes like 10 seconds to log what you did from there, It's not as easy as just pressing a button I'll admit but if your serous about what you get up to then surely it's worth 10 seconds to log.

Thanks for the info.  I should have researched the Alta hr more before buying it.  I just assumed that it would have the feature of starting an exercise.

I have an iphone and after reading this I was able to go to -

track exercise-

time clock in the upper right

log

add exercise-

added weights-

time of the exercise (5 hrs ago ).

It magically appeared. All the data. I too am happy as pig in stuff.  Yay for the iPhone users. It sucks having to remember what time you exercised and such but hey there is an option. Honestly I was about to pack this Alta up and take it back to the store until i found this thread. I hope this helps.
