Tracking Active minutes but not exercise

Hi there,

I was hoping someone could give me a hand with a problem I had with my Alta.

This morning I was on the treadmill for 35minutes doing HITT.

My Alta recognized I was actively working out since it did record my 35 active minutes.

The problem is that although it did record active minutes it didn’t track mi exercise.

I have no exercises recorded for today!

* Why did this happen?

*How do I fix it now so it shows my active minutes + the exercise I did today

* How can I know how many calories I burnt during these 35 active minutes or during this workout that wasn’t recorded?

Hope someone can give me some insight since I´m a bit confused!

Update: My Alta is set to auto recognize exercise after 10min..

Fitbit replaced my alta. It works even worse than the previous one for
active minutes. sometimes it tracks walks. Never tracks eliptical.

I have the same issue. I have my Alta for 6 months now and I have had so many issues with it including the band which is becoming very loose. Unhappy with Fitbit!

I have been having the same problems as everyone else since Thursday

i sent an email and got fobbed off with the excuse that I need to reset my active minutes to 10 and more not 15 and more!  Well as all my walks Thursday, Friday and yesterday were at least 60 minutes long and all at normal pace that is not a solution.

i have replied saying I don’t want walks of 10 minutes recorded and that I am not the only one having this problem

They say because my runs and aerobic exercise where recorded my walks couldn’t have been long enough!  I only did a run and aerobics to get an exercise registered and to see it if is only walks it won’t record

have emailed again but if I don’t get a sensible and helpful reply I will not be buying a new Fitbit

One very unhappy customer ( especially as I bought this two years ago to help with my health issies

Sorry but as well as patronising this is not correct

my walks are over 60 minutes and all at usual pace but Fitbit Alta hr has not recoded them since Thursday so it is definitely a problem with your system

I just started having the same issue with my Fit Bit Versa 2. The fit bit no longer automatically tracks my runs or HIITs as counting towards my daily exercise goals. When I go in and manually ADD my workouts to the exercise section it completely messes up and changes my step count and active minutes for the day.

Ver disappointed that this is still an issue.

Just got my FitBit for Christmas. I was so pleased the first week, everything was working great. But now my super rigorous indoor cycling exercises are not recording. However, strangely enough I just folded some clothes and it recorded me as having gone for a 19 minute swim. Lame. I’m super frustrated because I keep doing all the restarts and this and that and nothing is fixing the problem. Considering switching to Apple Watch if this continues.

@Gettin_it_done did you use the multisport mode called Spinning that can be added to the watch?

Fit has no way to determine when a person is spinning because there is very little arm movement.

As for swim, your arms apparently where I'm stating the movements of a swimming stroke. It is easy to delete.

I suggest disabling any of the Auto detectable exercises  which will also make the trackers response snappier.

Bingo, I figured out the spinning part about 30 mins before your response. Who knew spinning would be different than biking?

and good suggestion on the swimming issue. Done. Hopefully tomorrow is better tracking.

oh, another question:  would you suggest I not rely on the auto detect for spinning and manually hit the start button on my Fitbit right when I jump on the spin bike?

thanks!

Did you follow the link to adjust the auto detect settings?  As mentioned, your tracker is unable to detect spinning. So yes, when it comes to spinning you would want to use the manual start of spinning.

There really is not much difference from spinng and biking when it comes to the legs, but the versa is on the arm. On a bike the handlebars bounce around while the bike goes down the road. While spinning the handlebars and arm are pretty much still.

Great info!  Thanks for the help. Just strange the first three days of having the FitBit, the auto detect worked as a bike ride. Since then nothing.

I’ll let you know how tomorrow spin goes after I manually start it.

thank you for your quick responses.

Okay, my Fitbit finally worked today after starting it manually for my spin class. However, one small glitch still...it auto stopped 6 minutes too early. Do you have an explanation for this?

Thank you!

Please let us know what they say.  I am getting pretty fed up with problem.  I am keeping my pulse rate up so it should track. When I put it in manually it takes away my active minutes but put it in my days of exercise.

@Gettin_it_done may I ask what tracker you have? The Alta line doesn't have the option to manually start an exercise.

@SunsetRunner what type of exercise are you doing?

I called Fitbit too.  They did nothing for me.  Problem is still not resolved.

I wish I’d never bothered now. The watch strap broke after a year, I’ve had countless issues with notifications not working and now my activities aren’t tracking automatically. If I wanted to do it manually I would have used a fecking pen and paper....

Unfortunately it boils down to a greedy corporation bringing out half-baked products and sub-standard apps using the poor unsuspecting public as beta testers. And when the troubles are reported the best advice given may as well have come from “The IT Crowd”:

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

This will be the last ever Fitbit product I will be purchasing.....
